Definately go forged pistons and I'd spend the money on a great set of rods too.

I'm running Mahle forged pistons in my 408

I would recommend looking into either Diamond or Wiseco forged pistons. They both have a very tough forging that can handle a lot of power. Set up with a steel top ring set and you can't go wrong.

We need to know what size the combustion chamber is on the heads in order to figure out what size dish you need. 225cc is the intake runner size.

70cc heads with a .040 gasket and ~4cc dish should put him about 9:1 right?

With Wiseco's K456X3 pistons (20cc dish), 0 deck, a 70cc chamber and a .051" MLS gasket, you would hit ~9.3:1.

Contrary to what Wiseco has on their catalog, I personally have not run into a 6.0L block with a 9.230" deck height. I'm pretty confident I've set up several blocks to 9.23x" decks in some cases for a 0 deck.

If he does have one of these 9.230" deck blocks, he can always shave .005" off of the piston, or use a 6.098" rod. You can get a zero deck.

Zero deck means the piston top is even with the deck when it's all the way up, or TDC. If it's "out of the hole", it's above the deck, and "in the hole" is below the deck.

all of the truck blocks (6.0 5.3/4.8) that i have run into have all had 9.23 deck heights. this was measured on a CNC machine here at school. i machined 1 6.0 block and 2 5.3 blocks as well as 1 LS1 block and the only one that had a 9.24 deck height was the LS1 block....i have also heard that a lot of the truck blocks have the 9.24 height as well. i guess the only way is to measure.

The ones I saw were new unseasoned blocks from GM/Scoggin Dickey, maybe the ones that make it into vehicles are cut to 9.230"?
