got a lq9 stock rebuild well 1st start up i rev it up and down, let it warm up,then i shut it off, did this 3 times, well been drive it around, {been real easy on it}
yestr day it started smokeing just alittle out of the valve cover{blow by}
its not bad just alittle, it has been running alittle rich, did the rings get washed out by the fuel? put 40 miles on the motor b 4 the blow by start?
u think they would be seated after 40 miles i changed the oil once all ready
what you guys think? rings not seated yet or something is wrong?

Is your PCV system working properly? Thats the first place to start as the volume your PCV system draws via the intake manifold must exceed the volume of blowby that the engine generates.

No PCV = reason for seeing blowby gasses escaping the breathers.Every motor has blowby and it needs to escape the crankcase somewhere. Install a PCV system and I can just about guarentee no more blowby coming out of the breathers.

Hook everything back up the way it was with the exception of:
Leave the tube that ran from the TB to the passenger valvecover off (cap the the TB and valvecover ports where this hose was). Leave your breather in the passenger valvecover. Now fresh air will enter thru the breather in the cover instead of thru the TB and you keep the breather intact.

This is basically the same way the stock system is run/operates. Only difference is it's pulling fresh into the system via the breather in the valve cover (wich you seemed to want to keep) instead of thru the port in the throttle body. That port in the throttle body is just a hole drilled thru it. Air that enters that port never contacts air being drawn into the intake manifold they are seperated totally. It enters the front and exits the port on the side you could literally stick a piece of wire into the front hole and it would pop out the side. Reason for it being there is so the air drawn into the system is filtered via the airbox. You may be well aware of all this but the reason I mention it is because for the longest time I did not know this. The PCV valve itself regulates air volume allowed to be drawn into the system.

when breaking in an engine dont baby it u wana keep the rpms fluctuating between 1800-2800. get in a high gear and load the engine with some 3/4 pulls for about 50 miles while keeping a close eye on oil press. then change the oil and drive it normal,if you are too rich on a new build you will wash the rings. get your tune right! why waste money on the build just to short change the finished product.
Jesus!
