I've driven cams in the 240's on the stock 3.42's....
and I've driven them with 4.10's...and 4.56's...
gears are a personal choice...its not like the example stated above
^ I disagree. Getting into the powerband faster isn't a matter of opinion, it WILL make you faster.

Damian merely implied that larger cams have higher powerbands (naturally); thus, gears (for most) are a no-brainer, as getting the motor into its powerband faster has obvious benefits. No one is saying they're absolutely necessary, but the analogy simply conveyed that the combination of larger cams and stock gearing isn't ideal.

I don't want to start a petty tiff, as this site is often cluttered with such, and distracts from the technical information at hand.

^^^I will agree also. I have a 233/239 cam and my powerband is in higher rpms. I still have stock gearing and I KNOW that 4.10 or similiar could only be better for acceleration. it just makes sense.

So Im thinking of buying a set of Patriot Performance ls6 heads. Any idea if I would have to fly cut the pistons for this cam.

Update- lift isnt .595 .605 it is actually .617 .624 Im afraid that might be alittle to much lift. Any ideas?

Max lift occurs when the piston is relatively far from TDC; thus, it isn't a key proponent in PTV clearance issues.

Duration and ICL are the primary factors.

Please let me know your opnions.

I made a mistake - lift is actually .617 .624 !!!! I hope that isnt to big with stock valve 243 heads.

Sounds like LSL lobes... Ive had 2 cams with those lobes and like them.

Your correct I completely forgot about this and was just more focused on the large lift number.

Ok so the install is done. I ran a double spring set up from Vince Hi Performance - looks similar to the tsp/prc dual set up.

Anyways sounds great but I havent drove it yet. My buddy has the hp tuner cable so Ill let you know as soon as I get the cable and tune it.

Pacesetter non cat hooker exhaust.

I would say yes unless it's stricly a highway car. I had 373's for a while with a v2. I'm sitting at a shop right now getting my 411's installed. There was too much bog off the line for my taste.

my only thing is i would stick with 3.42 until i have the money for a 12 bolt or strage 60 cause no reason in wasting money on the weak 10-bolt...unless your car is simply undriveable then i would just stick with the 3.42's unless you are doing it yourself or don't have to pay for labor.

I'm using a bigger Cam than that.. no problems with the 3.42's
I've driven a solid roller profile on a 3.42 with no issues...

just need a good tune on the car to make it driveable
