Default Advancing the TR224???

When I had my cam installed the shop suggested buying the Comp Cams adjustable timing set.

So I did, and he advanced the timing on the TR224-563-112 by 2 Degrees.

I ended it with some fairly unimpressive dyno numbers, 371/365. The tuner feels the advancement in the cam is a problem, but of course the installer says its just fine.

Does the TR224 already have advancement ground into it?

Please give me some suggestions/insight, if I have to rip everything apart to put the timing set at dead center I will

Thanks
-Andrew

Unless custom ordered, all TR224 cams come with 4 degrees advance ground in.

#@$#^$& I just noticed, the Comp Cams is either 4 retard, or 4 advance...

So I am actually running 8 Degrees advancement!!!

Thanks for the input

We put my TR224/112 cam in about 2 weeks ago. Those are pretty much the same #'s I got with it.

The vast majority of street cams made have advance ground into them.

If you are happy with the numbers leave it be. If you feel you can find more power get back into the engine and change it.

good luck

What rpm is peak hp/torque occuring? What is your shift rpm? What converter do you have if automatic?

You want to advance or retard your cam so your peak hp occurs about 200-400 rpm below your shift point. For example, assuming your rpm limiter is set at 6600 then you will shift around 6300-6400. You then want your peak hp around 6000-6100.

Peak hp doesn't necessarily convert to peak et. You want your cam where you get the most torque through your rpm range.
