Default What does it take to get 11.0 compression on LQ4

Hey guys just wondering if this can be done. Im kind of on a budget so big expensive heads will be out of the question. Also I do not want to do pistions.
I can also get a LQ9 but it costs a little more and has more miles.
Let me know.

also forgot to mention. Im sticking with the ls1 intake so I cant use rectangle port heads.

I'd CC a piston, your heads current value, use a compression ratio calculator to figure out roughly what your heads need to be at to reach your goal, and then have them milled. Added steps would be fly cutting the pistons, measuring the relief value, and milling taking into account that relief.

Those were going to be the heads that ended up costing you more than the shortblock anyway. Atleast an LS6 intake maybe?

if I have the extra cash for a ls6 intake I will get one, but the long block gets attention first.

You will need to change over to flat tops with reliefs if you want 11:1. The 6.7cc dish is pretty tough to make up for. Your cam choice will also determine what you need to do so you do not have PTV issues.

with a .040 gasket and 61cc chambers, you should have 11:1

the thing about 6.0 engines, is there is more volume in the cylinders than an LS1, so it doesnt take as much milling as an LS1 to get to 11:1

A 59cc chamber with a stock head gasket will yield just under 11:1 compression.

I'm doing an LQ4 build myself, and with a stock head gasket and 62cc heads, I'm looking at 10.55:1.

yup, 59cc heads with stock gasket or 61cc with a 0.040 gasket or 60cc with a 0.045 gasket. You get the idea, milled heads, OR get some 243s/799s with a 0.030 gasket and you are looking @ 10.9:1

That information skips my first step. With that now you can play around with chamber cc and compressed gasket thickness. I'd just measure your valve drop after you mill to know what kind of room you are working with cam wise.

on the lq4 pistons how much more ptv clearance do you gain. found it nm -8cc for stock lq4 pistons

when I had my shortblock flycut, the cuts went into the raised portion of the piston along with the dish, so I'd say barely any at all.

i agree. the dish is not the entire diameter of the piston, there is about 1/4 inch on either side where it is just as tall as a flat top. otherwise, it would move the ring lands down and you would be back to a flat top further down in the hole.
