LS1 Build
So i think it's about time to start a build thread because I have held off too long already. Started the build last June but didn't get much time to work on it because of school/work. Here is the list of mods:
- LS7 Lifters
- Crane Pushrods 7.4"
- Patriot Gold Springs
- TSP 233/239 Cam 112 lsa
- 3" TSP True Dual Exhaust w/ Dynomax Bullet mufflers
- Pacesetter Long Tube Headers
- FAST 92mm tb
- FAST 92 Intake Manifold
- 42 lb injectors
- Casting #799 Heads (stock)
- Stock Rear
- Stage 3, 6 puck ceramic clutch & lightweight flywheel from F1 Racing
- T56 rebuilt transmission
- Spohn solid motor mounts
After the build i sent the car to Kaltech to get tuned and after almost 2 months i got it back. Only made 380rwhp and broke down nearly 2 hours after driving it. Had to tow it back home, ran some tests and found out i had almost no oil pressure and low compression in a few cylinders. Almost sold it but decided to pull the motor again to figure out the issues. Getting the SLP oil pump from Summit and hoping the block is ok. Here are some progress pics:

Thanks...i sure hope i don't have to go fishing for a new block. I'm going to do a leak down test soon enough to see where i'm loosing compression. Hoping to get this project done before school starts up again in a month.

with compression loss in mind, the rings/bores are more sensitive to low/no oil pressure than the top half of the motor. so my guess is your pissing compression into your crankcase. lq4!!

1 wire wheel and 1 hour later...
Also painted and cleaned up the k member as best as I could
Tomorrow i plan on pulling the balancer off and doing a leak down test to see where I'm losing compression. I hope my bores are okay!

sand or bead blast the valve cover and powder coat or epoxy them.good luck on the leak down.would you hone the bores out and install new pistons.check you cam ,was it installed correctly?check for leaky valves.

valve covers look good for just some elbow grease. if the bores are damaged to the point of loosing compression, its probably a better idea to look for a new block, either ls1 or lq4. not much meat on the stock ls1 sleeves.

After the leak down test I decided to take off a head and see what I'm working with...I don't think the bores are too bad actually but tell me what you guys think
Here's some pictures of the bearings...they look flimsy and seems as if they melted a bit. The little notches on the ends are also almost gone

Thanks for your help...but 500 is a little out of my budget. I already spent 600 in gaskets and pumps. I got a feeling I am gona need a new block because my leak down test showed i'm leaking 80-85% out of almost every cylinder. I'm gona take the heads off tomorrow and see what the pistons and bores look like.
I know him and I can talk to him about the price if need be. Just let me know Nick.

The cylinder hone job looks like a chimpanzee did it, judging from the photos. Way too harsh grit, no honing oil, or whatever.
If a shop did that, I'd avoid the place next time around. If you did it yourself, lesson learned and have a reputable shop do it next time.

judging from photos is tough but it seems like the "bad hone" your referring to is suspiciously in the area of the piston stroke. u can faintly see the cross hatching on the bottom of the cylinder from the honing process. given that the engine was running on no oil pressure I would expect the cylinder wear to be up/down running with the stroke of the piston, not running the circumference of the bore. again, with photos is tough to judge.
