Default Need cam help for a 415/LQ4 with Stg 3 L92 WCCHs

I was really hoping that I could get a cam spec'd out by PatG, but Med School is starting to get real $$$ so I guess I will have to go used on this for now.

I am looking for a nasty, lopey cam. What spec's should I keep my eyes open for in the classifieds? remember, this will be for a 415/LQ4 build with Stg3 L92 WCCHs. Just in case it matters, it looks like I will be using an LS3 intake and pacesetter LT. Not optimal, I know, but I got to go with what I have for now.

Thanks guys!

You'll need to supply tons more info if you want a recommendation on a camshaft.

Power/ET goals, gearing, transmission type, static compression, fuel, etc.

Assuming this is an EFI engine, no power adders, mostly street with some strip, Fbody, 4th gen?

Most people are going to be looking to get about 250-300$ out of these used hydraulic roller cams. 100$ more and you can probably get a custom spec one. The problem is that you see a lot of 224/224, 228r, LS6 and Magicstick cams out there. If I was going to go to the trouble of having to install the cam or gather up the cash to have it installed I would get what I wanted/needed/optimal. With a 415 you are not exactly limited on choice, but it could be a few months before you found a cam in the classifieds that was technically "ideal" for that displacement. Check with Geoff@EPS, TSP, SNL Performance and Speed Inc and see what they can do for you.

Sorry about that...

My power goals are a moot point right now since my setup is not too optimal, but suffice to say, that i would want as much as I can squeeze out of my setup as possible. I know from speaking with PatG and others that my LTs and running a LS3 intake will hurt me big time, but right now, I need to use what I've got since tuition for Med school is becoming increasingly more $$$.

As for my other Specs:

Rear: MWC Fab9 w/ 4.11's
Trans: T56
Comp: 11.5:1
Fuel: Pump
Intake: LS3

Like i said, I was really hoping for a PatG spec, but I really don't think i can do it since I have so much other **** that still needs to get done. i know that I will not find the optimal cam for me in a used configuration, but i would like to try to find the best I can and to do that, i need an idea on what to look for in the classifieds.

Thanks man!

thanks for the names, I will see what they can do for me. If the difference is not too bad then I will be all over a custom spec for my setup, but since I still need to have my block machined and built along with picking up a LS3 intake and TB and other ****, the $$$ just becomes tight. In fact, I was hoping to go with a Cary 2pc carb intake with a Accufab TB, but I just can't, plus I have Pasesetter LTs and they are too small for this setup, but i have to run with them. Like I said, I have no choice right now if I want my **** up and running.

Here are the cams I have been offered so far.

Patrick G custom spec LSR lobed 244-255 625-625 115+4

LS7R

I have a cam I had spec'd for my 417. Still new with the cam doctor report.
I can't remember exact lift but it's 243 259 @ .050 .65x .66x lift on a 114.. It's a comp and as stated it's brand new.

That's probably a good cam for drive ability. Still has 19.5° of overlap so it will definitely sound good. Nice wide split. Work on a price.

Thanks Orange! What do you think about these cams below?

Also... I might go to a larger piston to yield a 425CID. When it comes to the cam, will a +10CI matter much?

You can get a new custom ground cam From erik At HKE for $350 from comp cams. I wouldn't bother trying to find a used cam. You need a cam with a desent split in the duration for ls3 or l92 heads. More lift on the exhaust than the intake. Your best bet is to have a custom cam speced for the 415 with the l92 heads. Im not sure but I think Pat G only charges like $25. I have only bought a couple of used cams and the last one I bought had chewed up lobes and I had to deal with shipping it back and getting a refund so to me its not worth buying used.

Every single cam I have run with the exception of the 228r has been used. Just inspect what you are getting and or have it cam doc'd.

Well I just got hit with my tuition statement for this semester and unless I can get what I need on the stupid cheap, or find a damn job, then it looks like I might start selling my ****. I am sick of seeing everything sit here and collect dust, it's depressing. Plus the person that was going to do the work completely sold me out so I'm SOL every which way I guess...

I just can't win!

No long block Bro... It still needs to get built. It, if ever built, will be a NICE setup!

2004 LQ block
Brand New Callies Magnum XL crank
Brand New Callies Rods
Brand New Custom made Wiseco pistons
Brand New Morel Lifters
Brand New Cloyes Hex-A-Just
Brand New Melling (might be Milodon) oil pump
ALL New gaskets and seals
Calico Coated bearings
ALL ARP Fasteners
PG Spring kit

The for the rear I have MWC's Fab9 with Strange 35 spline axles. I had the center built locally since the one that MWC sent was lost by Fedex: Strange N case, Richmond DD 4.11's, Mark Williams yoke, Strange Pro spool.

Converting from a A4 to a M6: Mcleod clutch RXT twin Disk, Tick MC & Bleeder, QTP scatter shield, B&M Ripper shifter.

And as for the heads, well you know about them

I have everything, but the gaskets & seals, bearings, cam, push rods, intake and TB.

Well good luck in your endeavors! You can certainly make a good amount of money parting all that stuff out.

Well i think I am just going to keep it; with the power this 425 will put out, I would have to replace that 10 bolt within a few days, lol, so i am just going to keep it.

Here is another cam I seen listed. From what I am trying to learn about L92 cams, it looks like it will be nasty and work well. The intake has a 5 degree separation and if I understand right, the L92s like anything from 4 to 6. And from what I understand, a LSA of 111 would have a nasty chop... Am I right on my thinking?
