Default Ported LS6 Oil pump or Standard?

Doing a small 220's cam swap this next week. Changing the pump out and I'm curious if the standard LS6 pump is efficent enough for the swap or is there benifets going with the Ported LS6? Just worried that the ported ls6 might be overkill and if there is such thing of pumping too much oil?

Most say to go with a standard volume/hi pressure pump. I'm doing that with a Melling 20295.

You can just get a standard LS6 oil pump. I have 45-55 psi idling when its hot and 60ish at the start up.

Key thing to remember and worry about is not to pinch the O ring.

Get the Melling MEL-10295 standard volume/high pressure, then for insurance and piece of mind call up BRP and order you a pickup girdle. Best $24 you will ever spend and don't ever worry about that damn oring again

If you get the higher pressure pump, you might want to run an extra 1/2 to quart more oil.

A stock replacement GM pump will be just fine.

What in the world are you talking about? I think you have volume and pressure confused. In either case another half quart of oil is going to cause all kinds of problems with windage and crankcase pressure inside the engine both.

That's what I would think logically. But I keep hearing of guys running 1 qt over full. What's up with that?

I scored a TSP LS6 ported and shimmed pump on here for pretty cheap. Am I gonna run into any problems using it on a stock internal LQ4 with an LS6 C/I and full exhaust?

because for some reason they think more flow will be better.

because when it's pumped all that oil to the top you need more oil in the pan or it pumps air. Yea, this sounds like a good idea

look, if you want to increase the pressure just a little bit that's fine. Just put in .060 shim behind the spring and you'll have 40 lbs idle and 60 lbs crusing. That's plenty for any LS engine to live with.

oh, and that stock oil pump you have is a LS6 pump

That's when roadracing or autoxing for high Gs cornering.

So, is a stock pump the same as a LS6 pump? Thanks.

Unless the car is going to see high rpm for long periods of time, a stock GM pump is more than sufficient for a cam only street car. Put an LS2 timing chain on it too.

My stock '01 5.3 has 50 PSI hot, jumps to 60 PSI by 1500 RPMs, and is over 70 PSI at WOT. That's with M1 5W-40 Turbo Diesel Truck oil.

I run the melling high volume pump in my car. Melling had the high pressure spring already in there, but I swapped it out for the standard pressure spring since I already had great oil pressure.
