my friend rebuilt his ls1 in his 01 trans am, but used the 98 cam

it's rich and idles rougher than a stock cam should...if a stock ls1 cam acts the way his does I wouldn't try to run anything else

but you should be more worried about a stall first anyway...

My dad put a 212/218 115lsa cam in his ws6 along with headers. His a/f on the baseline run was 15:1... You have to decide if risking your engine is worth saving $$ on a tune. Not to mention he picked up 40rwtq+ on the bottom end. The baseline was shut down right away so who knows what it gained on topend.

Don't lie Joe, that turd never ran that fast!

j/k man, but most of the guys are right, about the only cams you wouldn't really need a tune for are so small that they honestly are not worth the effort, and most ls1 tuners will only charge that much for a one time fee, then just charge for their time after that. If you want the number of the guy that tuned my red car I can send it to ya, he stays in Baytown and does street tunes, so you won't have dyno numbers but you will put up numbers at the track, which is I am sure what you are more interested in, let me know man!

The right answer would be that any internal modification requires tuning to run at optimum levels.

However, you "can" run an LS6 cam in an LS1 with no other tuning and pick up 10-15rwhp with zero ill effects on driveability.

I always follow this:

Any cam you do all the work to change that won't really need a tune... IS NOT WORTH THE WORK TO CHANGE.
