Default How many cubes bigger can you go with a 346CI ?

I blew the motor in my 01Z and going to do a rebuild. Wondering if I wanted to bore over the block what is the biggest a builder can safely go with a Stock LS6 block? Do any of the vendors sell a package I could purchase for my builder with all the parts ie crank, rods, pistons, seals, bearings, etc....

Is the 383 stroked or forged ? Looking to do this on a budget. 500RWHP with milled heads, cam, and porting is my goal.

a ls 383 using a ls1 block has a 4" stroke crank,most likely forged.you hone the block to 3.908.

383 ls1 3.905 bore 4 stroker crank, you can do a 393 LS1 3.905 with a 4.100 stroker crank. I think you can do a 400 not quite sure on the 400. The first two I know for sure can be done.

They make larger stroke cranks and correlating piston sets for that block so you could go 395ish cubic inches, but honestly if I was going to spend the extra money on a setup like that, I'd go with a different block and make it worth my time and effort!

383ci has been the long tested stand-by combo for that block, and works pretty well!

I have a 393ci stroker ('99 block, 4.100 stroke etc) that has 13k miles and makes 477rwhp/471rwtq...but these days you can do a newer gen style block w/ similar or less stroke and make 40+ more horsepower

At this point I am trying to determine from a cost perspective if its worth going with a 383 and using my block or just running a 402? I was trying to stay at about $4K for a long block but that is proving very tough quick.
