Default Cam worth money at 80,000 miles?

My 1999 Z28 A4 has about 80,000 miles on it. is it a bad idea to spend the money now for a cam and stall now, or wait till motor needs rebuild?

80k isn't that much. I would just check the cam bearings and be sure they aren't worn too far. I know people with 120k+ miles getting ready to do cam/heads and all that good stuff ;D

You'll be fine.

id bey you are just fine. there are lots of cammed guys on this site with over 150k. if your worried just make sure you have good oil pressure and do a leakdown test.

I've got 191,xxx on mine, full boltons, runs strong 12.7@ 110. 40psi of oil at hot idle.
These motors will go for quite a while if you take care of them.

You'll be fine 80k is just breaking it in. Lots of 100K+ cam only cars out there.

I did my cam at 76K miles. Do a high volume oil pump while your in there just for insurance. My 98 with stock heads goes 12.1 @ 114 consistantly at the track

I did my cam swap at 72000, it at about 80000, runs like a raped ape. I wouldn't worry.

Do it. Like others said, do the oil pump, and personally I would do the timing chain and sprocket. I did mine at 119K

Why would it be bad? Look at it as you're building from the top down. If it's gonna break then it's gonna break cammed or not.

As everyone already previously mentioned a cam is well worth it just try to clarify your goals. Don't try to cheap out on doing it as well, replace the oil pump, timing chain, lifters, and even consider upgrading to arp hardware and possibly a thinner head gasket with cylinder head milling.
