Default getting a cheatR cam..which heads?

hey guys I made a thread about getting 400rwhp that'll pass cali smog on stock manifolds and cats with just a UD Pulley,4.10s.Lid,Cutout,racetronix pump, and greentops as my only mods on a 01 6speed z..so decided im going with either a cheatr v3 cam or even a eps cam with similar specs..specs of the cheatr is 219/230 .607/.604 on 117

so now that i know pretty much which cam im going with which heads should i get that'll benefit me more? im getting a stock casting head and my options are my 241's,or 706's,853's and if i can 799's..which would be best with this cam, stock or not on the heads is both possible..thanks

John

The classic match from Thunder has been the AFR 205's which by the way are emissions legal.

send your 241's to advanced induction... will net you around 40whp for 1100.00, or texas speed has the prc 2.5 5.3 heads for 1309.00 and that includes .650 lift springs.

from my experience, you won't hit 400whp without a top of the line head like AFRs and to get you over possibly a FAST intake. If your on a budget, get cnc'd 243s and you'll get pretty close, but i would bet the farm you won't get 400. If you want less noise get the eps with beehives.

Thanks I can get 706 heads for damn near nothing from a friend and send them to a local spot aswell as my 241's. It's between either of those 2..which of those 2 would be better? I'm going to disagree with you on having to have a top of the line head to get 400 though

I think the 706 heads are slightly better than the 241 when the are fully ported w/ bigger valves installed. the smaller combustion chambers bumps compression up also.

thats fine, wish you all the luck to meet your goal. personally in that setup since its not a ***** out setup i think theres more value in cncing a stock head. if you do your research you'll see hitting the 400 mark with that cam is quite an accomplishment, and investment.

No worries and thanks. I just seen a few threads with this cam and similar spec'd cams with stage 2.5 5.3's make 403 or 406 rwhp so I know its possible. I just want to use either the 241 or 706 head. Which ever would be best for my setup. If I don't hit the 400 as long as I'm close I'm happy. Thanks

you'll def be close and trust me its a fun setup, and i dont even have 4.10s yet. just some ppl get hung up on a number and if they make 399 they'll be disappointed. just remember your 4.10s will gobble up 10hp. ive seen some 400+ setups having headers but i havent seen any 400+ other than patrick's with stock exhaust.

Look in the classifieds section on here for some used TFS or AFR heads. Heads really need to be the center and most important part of you build. Buy the best heads and then go from there.

If you can swing it, 243 or 799 heads. I just bought a set of 799 heads local for $350. That was cheaper than the cam. BTW, you may have seen my thread below. CheaTR cam and 799 heads. The motor isn't done yet but the few people that replied seem to think 400rwhp is doable.
