If it is one the car and you are talking about the oil that accumulates in the intake, I would not clean it. Having the oil find its way through the motor does no real harm and arguably serves as an upper cylinder lubricant. It is not great for the plugs but is not likely to foul them. I would takes steps such as servicing the PCV system and/or adding an oil catch can to prevent the further accumulation of oil.

If the intake is off the car - filling it wil hot soapy water and a hot water rinse should do the trick. It will need to air dry for awhile.

Thanks darkman! I noticed the oil and thought I had a real problem! As you can tell I'm a complete newb! I was thinking it was probably the pcv valve because that hose had some deterioration. The valve itself rattled though.

Someone replied to a post that I should switch out the ls1 intake for and ls6. If I did that do I need to make any other changes?

Thanks!

When doing an intake swap I would change out the pcv system for a 2004 and later style pcv with a catch can. This will eliminate future deposits in the intake manifold.

I had oil on the bottom of my intake. Installed a catch can and the next weekend I removed the tb to clean out the oil and it was all gone. Point being, install a catch can and the oil should clean itself out and prevent any future deposits.

It you do a search on the word "catch" in the Generation III External section it will yield numerous threads on this. Here is one=

I am just using a air compressor air water separater from home depot. I think it was about 15 bucks with the barbs.

No, the installation of oil catch can does not involve the fuel injectors. The plumbing assoicated with oil catch can installation varies by engine type and vintage and involves connections between the valley cover, valve covers, throttle body, and air intake. If you visit the website for Elite Engineering they have PDFs of installation instructions for various models (LS1, LS6, etc.) that may be helpful.

Thats what I meant...I already have it off so I figured the soap would be bad for the injectors. Definitely will be installing a catch can. Thanks!
