trunion upgrade proplem
ok before the upgrade i never had any kind of noise from my engine. now since my rocker upgrade i can rev the motor a few times and it makes a tapping sound, like a rocker tap. it doesnt do it every time just maybe 1 out of 5 or 6 revs. ive checked side clearance between every rocker 3 times to see if they are not too loose which they are not! if anything there a bit on the tight side. next thing came to mind was now ptv clearance. i run a 230/238 .600/.604 112+2 cam with 317's milled to a 64cc chamber. any help would be great! im pulling my hair out guys!

I would check the clearance on the cam. In order to get 317 heads down to a 64cc chamber you would have to mill ~.050" off. That is a pretty decent amount and the cam you have has some duration to it, so I think it would be worth checking. Although, with a clearance issue it is something that is usually not imtermittent. Are the lifters in the motor new? If not, you might also check the lifters for any problems.

they are ls7 lifters with around 3000 miles on them. they were removed once from the motor and left in a bag until i needed them a month later. my pushrods are 7.350 if that makes any difference. the motor made NO noise like this before my rocker arm upgrade. same cam, lifters, heads, etc. just with stock rockers

i just retorqued them today actually! but ill check them in the morning just to be 100% sure they are tight after running. i have lock tite on the exhaust bolts and thread seal on the intake bolts because they run into my intake runner.
again there was no noise untill after my trunion upgrade. i ran the car for about a month with the same heads, lifters, and camshaft. before doing the upgrade. no noise

side to side. i could move them a fair amount and they would make the same noise when i would move them, there is now no side movement between the bearing and retaining clip. and it still makes the noise. just NOTHING as much. the engine sounds normal idleing but when i crack the throttle every now and them i hear the tap.

I would suggest you take the rockers off and see if the bearings rotate completely silky smooth. When you rotate the shaft in the rocker needs to be completely smooth without catches or roughness.
If it is not completely smooth, have a look at this thread:

tighten the valve covers back down to at least where they were when the noise would show up and put you're hand/fingers on the valve cover where the noise is and if it's hitting the cover you will be able to feel it . good luck

Alright, pm me or post your combo on recently what you have changed or done to cause/warrant this new noise issue! Pushrod length change or anything else you have done at the same time you were upgrading rockers?

The only thing I did was upgraded the rockers, installed a fast 102, and plugged my oiling towers under my intake. My setup is a stock shortblock ls2, t.e.a. Ported 317's stage 3 shaved to a 64cc chamber with 2.08/1.60 valves, the cam is stated in the first post 230/238 .600/.604 112+2, pushrods are 7.350, head gaskets are cometic .51. The cam was spec'd by pat g himself so I trust him.
