The price of the pistons is irrelevant,it's the amount of material that is present within the cylinder sleeves that is important. To thin of a cylinder wall can produce excessive heat within the chamber. There is no need to remove more material than is necessary,as I stated before the 98 cylinder sleeves are a lot thinner than the later model blocks. It's your engine do as you please...I wouldn't post again on this thread...it's you that will pay the piper not me!!

My old 98 model car had a 2002 LS1 block with Mahle .010" over pistions...3.908" bore...ate a 100 shot quite well, and is now a turbo motor for someone. I sold it, he sold it, says the guy put a turbo on it. I built it, had 11,000 miles on it when i sold it and went through ALOT of nitrous, on top of being a heads/cam/intake 450+ horse motor through a 9" rear. I dont know about a 98 block, but Mahle makes the stock pistons for LS1 so I trust that they know whats up. Some people say the 98 block has different sleeves, but when i pulled my 98 out and compared it to the 02, I say just got 3.905" with it to be safe...whats the extra ,003" anyway. But it is safe to do .010" on newer blocks.
