Thats part of the egr system. Removing the entire thing and adding a plate to seal the exhaust manifold is common there are lots of threads about it. Also might want to remove the AIR system. Keep in mind that you will throw codes with the removal of these systems

I feel like there should be a minimum threads viewed requirment before people can post in any sections other than the intro forum.

I feel like anyone that knocks a guy for asking a question is a even bigger (you fill in the blank) than my X-wife.

How else is he suppose to learn? I guess everyone here was just born with an endless amount of knowledge.....surely they didn't get it TAUGHT to them. Which usually requires....asking questions.

Im not sure if its an issue with the LS series engines and their Emmission systems but I do know the 80's stuff would run hot if you blocked the EGR off and also the combustion chambers, valves and piston faces would carbon up quick! Which of course leads to pre-ignition or detination.

That's why there is the newbie section. This is the Internal Engine section for questions pertaining to things like camshafts, pistons, rocker arms, etc. Last time I checked, the EGR system wasn't considered an engine's internals. Nothing wrong with asking a question, but it cuts down on clutter if its posted in the appropriate forum.

Like Mart00SS, this should have been a question for the Intro Section since this is the kind of info you can find in a Chilton's manual at your local auto parts store. I don't think he was knocking the guy.

So....he asked question about an EGR valve....Yeah he could of looked it up in a haynes/chiltons manual. So?

Is that really the kind of attitude we want to potray to new guys?

Last time i checked....if you had a "club".....the last thing you want to do is push away potential new members.

Never know....that new guy might be a genius with electronics (how many patents do you have?) or he might be an alignment specialist or maybe even a transmission guru.

He might one day bail everyone of us out of a automotive puzzle.

Ill take my chances and defend the new guys vs. defending some grumpy one thats whining about this or that.

i would be more concerned about the loose serpentine belt

that junk can be thrown out the door. and yes, you will need some sort of block off, basically anything you can come up with to block the hole efficiently without catching on fire. the wiring..i dunno, i tucked mine away. and i'm pretty sure that hose goes into a hole on the front of the intake. you need an expandable 3/8" (i think) plug from any parts store for that.

fyi, me and some friends shot that egr valve with numerous pistols. it more or less only dented and bounced around the yard like a pool ball haha. even a .44 mag just left a dent, but damn did it sail!

you might consider removing the air system, as well. pump under the driver's front fender and a ton of useless rubber hose that runs along the fender wells and behind the intake.

i dont have a Chilton or a Haynes.....the local Ad or Az dont have them for this car...i already looked.

I would have done a search first but didnt know what it was called so didnt know what to search for...LOL
I figured since it was on the engine then this was the right section to blow it by you guys. Excuse meeeeeeee!!..... Most of my other questions have been in the appropriate section.

so i guess now knowing what it is and doing a search and reading a little, i shouldnt really do anything with it ..without first having someone that can tune it out the PCM and i guess tune the car too..so i'll leave it alone.

I was just in the mood the take it out and clean it up cause ive been doing the wire mod, hood latch mod and Traction relo mod the last day or so.......and didnt wanna stop!

everyones gotta learn someway, Here is the answer you were lookin for, that is part of the EGR system, and if you want to delete it you can, pull all of it off, and as the others said, delete your A.I.R system also. This will clean your engine up and make it easier to work on. You can do a search for EGR or A.I.R delete and figure out how to do it its not hard. NOW,,,when you do this the PCM will throw codes, thats where a tune comes in. The tuner will make changes in the pcm to make sure the car wont throw codes. AND since you are having those tuned out, GO ahead and get your rear O2 sensors deleted also. This will allow you to run any exhaust without catalytic converters and not throw codes If you are just staying with bolt ons a mail order tune will be fine, there are plenty of sponsors and fellas to do it, FROST is highly popular and does a great job as does texas speed. the average cost of a mail order tune is around 125-150 I hope this helps you.

remove it when you do some other mods also that require a tune.maybe a new full exhaust or cam.

and yes although this could just as easily been answered in the newbie section,, Dont sweat the comments, its no different than all the "help me pick a cam" post that pop up every couple threads.

LOL ..Don't laugh, soon i will be asking that question for my engine buildup. Currently i am tearing one down.

My hat is off to those of you that weren't "stuck up snobs" to the guy for asking a "newbie" question and giving him a hand. Hopefully more will come to this forum just like you.

I suppose most of us have been doing it wrong, according to this. Burying your nose in books, reading, researching...such a waste.

We should have just wandered around the university asking questions instead. "What's a differential equation?" "What's an antigenic determinant?"

Seriously? I'll just tuck you into the group of stuck of snobs. Oh and since you atleast know the subject of your mathematical questions...unlike the poster which didn't know what to call the (EGR VALVE) nor even know what system it was a part of......... You can google YOUR mathematical questions.

Imagine this....he already searched and could not figure it out........so he asked a question. Big deal....he added another post to the forum.

Stop crying kids.
