Default oil pump witch one is best

i am doing head and cam on my 01 trans am ws6 and collecting all my parts. i am looking to get a better oil pump. what have you guys used and what would you recomend. i am runing a ls2 chain with the factory ls1 sprockets. i have been looking at melling high volume pump but apparently some people say it has no advantages over stock. there are three melling pumps stock, high volume, bluebprinted and ported. witch do you guys think is best the are simmilar in price each by 20 more. thanks

The ported ls6 is a good one with a shim and spring and so is the melling. Either one will work great with the ls2 chain. So whatever you can get cheaper with the best customer service, purchase it.

I keep reading about how these HV pumps can run the oil pan dry, is there any truth to this or just speculation?

i dont have to shimm it or anything it comes assembled. it bolts on like stock one. the pump bots to block there is no gaskets between pump and block. do you guys think the blue printed and ported melling is worth it. i will prob go with 10296.

I run the melling but put the stock pressure spring back in. I like like 50-60 psi at idle so no need for more than that

Stock LS6 pump is good enough. Is what I run on mine and I get 40 PSI hot idle, 55-60 cold idle.

The machine shop i used recommended using a stock melling replacement pump with a stock oil pan, which would be the m295...im sure either would be fine.

I know when I got the Melling 10295, it had regular bolts around the face and with the shims for a double roller chain I had to do a lot of grinding on the inside of the timing cover.... the 10296 has recessed flush Allen head screws so you don't have the clearance problems.....plus the 10296 comes with another spring to give you stock pressure.

With the 10296 in my car it isles at about 45psi and pegs around 80 psi in the yogurt rpms

iv been told with the melling you have to grind some of the timing cover out, been told the factory oil pump is fine and just get that blue printed, that's the way i'm going, going to buy a new factory oil pump and get it ported, i'm going to be running a double roller chain.

It gave me about 25-40 psi over stock depending on rpm... It never ran my pan dry that I know of
