Default Aftermarket oil pan options

I am building a solid roller 347 and I want to get a bigger oil pan than stock. I see Moroso has one(part no.21150) but its almost $800 by the time you buy everything. Who else makes a 6.5-7 quart oil pan that doesnt cost as much and may even allow you to use stock pick up tube and windage tray? I am unsure what oil pump I have because it was already in the motor when I bought it. I can tell it looks ported. I am just worried about the oil pan being pumped low at high rpms

Take a look at CANTON, too.

Baffling the sump might be helpful, too . . .

Milodon makes a stamped pan, moroso does as well, they are for "transplant" cars, but if you have an aftermarket K member they should fit no problem....

I have a Spohn tubular k member. Do you know which stamped swap pan will work best?

Moroso or the milodon one will work. They both have their own pickup (sold seperately) that puts it lower/more towards the back, and with their windage tray, the oiling should be fine up to about 8500 rpm.

If you're looking to spin more then that, you are in dry sump territority

Stock pan holds 7 without the level touching the windage tray.

I thought I heard that somewhere else also.

I checked when my motor was apart. This doesn't include the possibility of running a big filter, or take into account a running motor with oil in the galleys (and the fact that these motors heavily oil the top end) but at this point were getting into speculation.

I guess I will have to start running more. I usually run the big truck fulter and 6 quarts. Mine doesn't see sustained high rpms very often, but better safe than sorry.

Thing I like about the aftermarket pans is that they have a pickup tube that's lower/more towards the back, so on the launch and if you stand the car up it will stay covered with oil better. And, with a remote oil filter, it's really easy to put an assusump in with the pressure feed to the filter, which feeds the motor... putting an accusump in the car that holds a good qt or 2 will pretty much insure that you have adequate oiling until you get to the point that you need a dry sump to control the oil in the motor, which with ls stuff seems to be over 8800 rpm. That seems to be the upper limit, any more then that and you start seeing bearing issues that are oil related.. even if you run coated bearings and gap them a little on the loose side and run a thick/heavy oil. For the most part most people never twist these that high so it's not really a concern.

I'd really like to try a pan with decent kickout's on it so the oil capacity can be kept lower away from the crank, and see if that helps with power at all. Should improve windage a good bit. I'd also like to see if there's a way to externally rout the oil from the heads back into the pan, to help keep the oil in the bottom of the motor more....

From the quote below, it sounds like you are saying that you can run 7qts of oil, and, with the motor running, more like 8?

I wish I could find it but I read there was a downfall to running more than 6.5 qts in the motor. I don't think it mattered if it was FI or not.

I'd like to know if there really is a downfall to running 7qts?

I want to get the Moroso 21150 but its expensive. I was thinking of getting oil-restricted pushrods to keep the oil in the pan, the Improved Racing Insert and and running 6.5 or maybe even 7qts of oil. May not be 100% as good but maybe 75% as good for $400 less? The pan is $650 plus another $200 for the oil filter relocation kit.

Sorry but I am bring this back from the dead

I am building a 450 stroker and the biggest thing that worries the **** out of me is the oiling system. I too have been lead to looking at the Moroso 21150, but am worried about the issues that have been brought up in the past about it. I am also not liking the price, but since I am running a 4.125 crank, my options look bleak as to other choices. I would love to run a dry system, but that's not in the card right now; however, I am thinking of doing the accusump for safety measures.

What would you guy suggest as to my options. OP, what did your decide on for your build?

Why not take a look into Kevko Oil pans.. They have some nice quality pans.
