Default Anyone running streetsweeper HT cam with ls6 heads

So i have decided i want a cammed car. For me it will be street only, rarely track, so driveability is key for me. My HP goal is somewhere between 400-450. Ive read up on cams and it seems like for what i want the ssht or tsp v3 (i think v3) is what i need. Either way i read thats heads make this cam, as all others, even better. Have also seen cam only setups.

I see good things about the 243 ls6 heads and wonder if these would be good with my cam choice. I have a 2002 ws6 with the 241s stock. Would it be worth while to go with 243 or stick with 241? If neither of these then which set?

I have never messed with internals before and need some guidance. My car is a 02 ws6 m6. Mods are; pacesetter LTs, 3" O/R Y, lid, 3.90s, girdle, bmr rear springs, kyb adustables up front , tube LCAs and SFCs.

If this has already been discussed please point me in the right direction.

If 400rwhp is your goal, then the Street Sweeper High Torque cam will get you there with your stock heads. How much money do you want to spend on heads? Most people will agree that you buy the best heads you can afford and get a cam custom specked out based on the heads you have, etc. I know that Ed Curtis designed the Street Sweeper High Torque cam, so you know it's good. He's considered one of, if not, the best cam guys in the LS game. I think you'll be happy with that cam.

Yea sounds like ed curtis is a god around here. haha His cam sound awesome and put up great numbers. I would be willing to do 1200 on heads if it will put me to the top of my goal and keep it streetable.

Keep your eyes on the classified section. You can often times find some aftermarket castings in that price range. You could also send you stock heads of to TEA or A.I. to have them ported.

Either of those cams even with budget heads should put you in the 430rwhp range without much trouble on an LS6 intake. You clutch will hate you though.

I have the V3 and it's choppy with the 111 lsa...which I like, you definately know there is a cam in there. I don't think I'd DD it though. I choose that cam because it matches up well with my 2.5 ls6 heads which I think are $1500.

Phoenix, I have seen that post. Its what made me want this cam. With a mortgage and two kids this build fits my budget well. Seems like its very easy to build around this cam. I'm sure a fast combo would hurt it either.

Brntws6 yea clutch will be tax time. What do you mean by "2.5" ls6 heads.

Did you see the post with an idle video of the Street Sweeper High Torque cam? On a 111 LSA, it sounds mean as hell. My plans include getting a 228/223 110 LSA custom grind cam. Basically the same as the Street Sweeper High Torque cam, but on a 110 LSA. I purchased a set of used AFR 205 heads in the classified section a while back for $1,500 and then had Ed Curtis grind me a custom cam, which came out to be a 230/236 112 LSA, but recently traded them for a set of Fikse wheels. I thought I had someone to help me with the build, but he backed out, which was the reason I traded.

I would like to see a AFR 205 combo with the Street Sweeper High Torque cam. I bet it would be a real street beast.

Yea AFR is another I've heard a lot about. What kind of springs would you suggest for that cam. I was thinking doubles rated to .650 or would this be over kill?

Those would definately work. Are you planning on installing everything yourself?

Undecided on that. Is it a rough task? Or what's average install cost?

Stage 2.5...they come with upgraded valves that deal with heat better and give about 5hp more.

Brnt, I'm gonna check these out. Gary, ill look into the install thanks for the link. I just talked to a guy here at work and he said its cake compared to dealing with TDC on the old SBCs.

Ok so I'm leaning more toward the 2.5 ls6 heads. Excellent price for assembled units. Brnt, what kind of numbers are you making with the v3 cam?

I put down 423 / 389 on a mustang dyno but couldn't get in a clean pull as it totally fries my clutch at WOT. I'll be putting in a LS7 eventually and get it on the dyno again. I made 340hp on the same dyno before and expect ~100hp from the H/C and UD pulley.

Nice numbers man. Yea I think I'm going to use another ACT clutch. Had a HDG6 in a mustang and I liked it. Never messed with a hyd clutch though. Should be interesting.

After doing more research I don't think I'll be doing a LS7 clutch either. It might be fine but for a little more I can get a diamond stage 2 good for 600rwhp
