Default 228r or Torquer 2 cam?

Ready to buy a cam from texas speed. Heres my info.
- ls6 intake
- edelbrock headers
- gutted cats
- 853 heads (stock)
- magnaflow catback
- slp lid with k&n
- p/p throttle body
- free ram air

My question is which cam would work best? And which LSA is the most recommended? I don't want to end up getting the 228r and regretting wishing i'd gone bigger but I also want to lay down the most power on a DD car. I can't afford heads right now, those are next years tax return, but which cam should I get at this point? And what kinda numbers could I possibly see with each? Thanks guys,

My vote goes to tq2. comes alive around 3000rpm's, peaks at around 62-6300 rpm's so you don't have to rev it to the moon. And I would get it on a 112lsa it will have a nice chop to it.

Torquer V3.

No personal experience, but a friend went from a V2 to a V3 and he and I both noticed / felt a difference. Valvesprings shouldn't scare you at this point anyways.

Can your tuner?

EDIT: You have, from what I can see, everything minus push rods and springs. Why not?
You can get by with the 3.42's for now. I'd go 4.11 with even the V2 down the road though.
Then again, some keep the 3.42's and have no issues.

I have the V3 with 3:42's and it's fine. When I do a rear I'll switch to 4.11's but that won't be till next year. Just make sure your tuner is familer with this cam. Even then you may have to bring it back a 2nd time to work the bugs out. The V3 is on a 111 lsa your neighbors will know you did something to your car. Personally I wouldn't DD this cam but I know people do and don't mind it.

When you do the heads plan on a new clutch too.

I currently have an ls7 clutch with tick master... that would suffice right?

LS7 will be fine; Kudos on the Tick as well.

Like BrntWS6 said, your neighbors will definately know the weak little hampster under the hood hit puberty, but it won't be unbearable, since you have one of the quietest catbacks as it is.

Either the 228r or V2 will be great cams. You can't go wrong with either.

The Tick master is great. The LS7 clutch gets iffy when you start putting down some power, even mild bolt on power. Especially if you are planning to do heads.

228r, It has proven itself more.
I see more Impressive setups with it than torquer cams.

I think the Torquer v2 would be a great choice. A little more aggressive than the 228r, and still going to be a pleasure to drive every day!

I gave my reason.

Why not get a cam specd for your setup and goals? Maybe tonys blue pill setup.

Do atleast a 3" cutout and both cams sound like great choices. what kind of heads are you thinking about getting?

Most all people will go with the "bigger is better" mentality. It's human nature to get the most you can with your money but not always the best choice.

In my opinion, I rather would go smaller and if that didn't satisfy me, I could go bigger down the line. The 228r was considered a big cam years ago and it's still a good proven cam with a great powerband. Now with all the bigger cams coming out, people think of the 228r on the smaller side. With a good set of heads you would be surprised at what it will do.

And cams aren't that expensive. If you decided the 228r wasn't enough, you could always sell it here on the trader and use that money towards a bigger cam like the V2.
