Default chocolate milk in rad..

Got a friend with a 01 ss..the car was getting a lil past 210 before today I'm told and noticed it was a lil smokey so popped the hood and had a lil bit of steam but didn't really see anything only noticed it was a lil damp on the power steering pump.

So I go to check it out. Didn't notice any coolant or leaks anywhere. I open the rad cap and looks like chocolate milk also checked oil and dipstick all looked normal just a lil steam from oil cap hole.

So I assume its a head gasket but don't want to jump the gun being that its a auto and has a trans cooler and power steering cooler that can both leak into the rad and look the same?

Just want to get your thoughts? Didn't even think about checking PS or trans levels and will see tomorrow how they are. But do know they had the rack and PS replaced not to long ago which may have something to do with it. Thanks

I don't know for FACT, but after I replaced my power steering cooler, I still had this stuff show up (thats an early picture) so I finally did the head gaskets...

Got rid of the power steering and with new gaskets, no issues since...

Good luck.

Check your power steering first because those coolers are trouble spots.

I'll get a report on that today. I'm hoping its low or looks like the rad so it comes out being that. Thanks

So checked trans and power steering both are normal

Still a lil suspicious being that the rack and pump where replaced. Anything I can do to test it? Or should we just change the head gaskets?

get rid of the stupid power steering cooler, its not worth a damn anyway. Also, the whole cooling system is probably going to need to be completely flushed out to get all the crap out.

Yea I never noticed that cooler since mines a straight hose. Ill have to see how my hoses for the power steering are routed. Oh yea for sure needs flushing just hope its not a head gasket

You should NOT get steam at 210F. If you do you have a leak and pressure is not building. The system has to build pressure to raise the boiling point of the coolant to 260F not 210F. You need to locate the hole in the cooling system. You can pressure test the cooant system or do a leak down on all 8.
