Default Iron LS1

I just got a 5.3 out of a 2003 truck and i am thinking of taking it out to ls1 dimensions what is the best way to make 550 rwhp with this setup i was looking at the texas speed heads and cams i dont have a problem running race gas but would like to do this on a budget not cheap but spend my money in the right places this will be going into my 86 chevy dune toy with a th350 and maybe even some nitrous one of my bigest concerns is if the stock crank will be ok i was planning on some eagle rods and forged pistons but i need help with the rest of the combo and if i should go carbed or try and find a car intake and run the FI thanks for all replies in advance

The stock crank can definitely handle that power level, but you may want to consider a 4" or even 4.100" stroke crank. 550whp with 383ci or even 393ci is a lot easier than with only 347ci.

If your looking for a dune toy build, why not run an aluminum LS1 or even an LS2 block? It will save you some weight, which is never a bad thing, and with the LS2, it can be easily built into a 400+ cubic inch setup.

Is the 550rwhp your after including the nitrous, or before the bottle?

To get to your 550rwhp on a 347 you'll definitely need FI

Not really. You can make 550whp with 347ci, but its not easy and its certainly not cheap.

if its goin on a dune car why not leave it a 5.3 and put the nice rods and pistons in it and go turbo and e85 550 would be cake and save alot of bs and be fairly budget

The reason i am not going with aluminum is because i already have the iron block 5.3. Weight is not really an issue as this is already a 4300 lb four wheel drive truck. The 550 whp goal is on motor but if I have to spray to get there I will. As for boost i would love to I just dont even know where to begin as i have never boosted anything. Thanks again for comments and replys............ I hope my puncuation was better this time so everyone can understand what i am saying.

the reality is if you have a 5.3 you could be budget and pick up those nice rods and pistons you were talkin about, go get some ls1 heads (or 6.0 heads if theyll fit im not real sure) a stock ls6 cam or whatever cam you decide on and start rammin boost in the bitch on e85 (with nice head studs and gaskets of course). as long as someone worth a damn is tuning it i wouldnt worry at all. youll easily reach 550rwhp with wiggle room to spare and it will be completely safe.

hell this build right here was done by the shop that tuned my car and this thing lives with zero issues touchin on 1100rwhp

The cheapest way is buy scat I beam rods buy ur choice of forged pistons I prefer wiseco or diamond put like a torquer v2 cam and supporting valve train and a factory set of 243 heads ls6 intake and 150 shot

If u want 550 to the wheels without spraying it u would definitely need boost or u would spinach to much money and time in trying to make a perfect combo to push that small of a displacement to 550 just on motor

Hmmm, 12:1, ITBs, solid roller and great heads can get you those 550rwhp. But you'll have to pay the price both in $$ and time spent.

So if boost is the best option for my whp range what should i look for in the game of a turbo? Will truck manifolds turned around work or do I have to custom build headers. How much boost? I have alot of questions about it but first which sponsor should i get ahold of for pistons and rods? thanks again to everyone for the help this should be fun!!

At that power level either the scat h beams or eagle h beams will be fine usually run $450 diamond or wiseco pistons I like the rings that come with wiseco pistons $700-900 for a boost piston or just get a flat top piston and put 6.0 truck heads on it

truck manifolds would work perfectly people make tons of power with them and it cuts costs alot. if you had nice rods and pistons and head studs and some 6.0 heads with a good turbo cam on e85 hell id cram 19psi in that bitch and shoot for 800+rwhp.

and no cory im not sayin 550 cant be done on motor im sayin it cannot be done on what you suggested. predator has the right idea it would take a TON of bs to make it make 550whp and not have a ton of time and maintenance in it.

The power numbers you guys are talking about seem to be figures for what an fbody would make. A big 4wd truck will see much more parasitic loss due to all the extra drivetrain components. He is going to need 700hp at the flywheel at least to hit his goal of 550rwhp.

well its through a th350 and im unsure of the 2wd or 4wd but i have full confidence what i listed would easily get hi to his goals. and if its all 4x4 and what not i definately even more so do not see that kind of power happening n/a
