Default Soooo I pulled my passenger head.....

So I had about 300 miles on the new motor and it started making a knocking sound but it isnt rod knock. It was definately coming from the valve train. I thought maybe a pushrod was plugged so I took compressed air and blew it backwards. All of the lifters wouldnt let air through except for one. It acted as if their wasnt even one their. So does this mean that lifter isnt pumping up??? Also while I was their I noticed this on the #8 cylinder:

You can barely feel a groove in it so its minor but is it safe to run it??? Their is 3 grooves total in that cylinder and none in the others. sorry for the novel guys, any input is appreciated.

That piston is about to go out! Did you spray your engine or probably it was runing lean because it looks like it got hot

I've never heard of blowing air into a push rod towards the lifter. That's a great way to empty the lifters of oil. Exactly what was this supposed to show?

Who built this motor? With those marks on the cylinder wall, you need at minimum a hone job and rings, perhaps even a new piston.

How's the other side looking? You might as well pull the L/S head as you need to re-do the engine.

What motor/year/car is this in?

Sorry for the bad news but marks like that are like a flat tire. Use it and it'll get worse, not better.

Just judging by the streaks it looks like that cylinder was run lean (hot). I agree with the others, pull it, hone it an new piston/rings.

no holes in the piston. I put the motor together and followed the book exactly. Everything went together perfect so I dont know whytheir is problems but i guess **** happens. I blew air through the lifters to see if they were clogged...motor is in a s10

NICE! An LS engine in an S10!

What motor is this?

Looks like you'll be re-doing it, something went wrong.

I think this may be your problem........

Seems to me like some of those shavings found their way down into that cylinder. Drain your oil and see if you find shavings in the pan.

Haha!!

In all seriousness though - it looks like the mishap with your rockers is the culprit to me.

Dude, that wasn't negative towards you. I was agreeing with you. I was agreeing that I saw holes in the piston - The other remark was in reference to the cylinder walls.

No spray. It looks like it got hot, its just carbon build up on it. It ran rich but thats it.
