Default 228r Aquired. Hunting for some heads and an Intake.

Your input is needed. It's my first build with my car and I am trying to do it right the first time and be done with it.

Goal, street manners with a dark side. 228R 112 LSA TSP cam to work around.

Supporting mods, Long tube headers... yea....

I wanted to start with the cam because too many parts revolve around it. That's been in my closet for about 2 months. saved some cash after **** hit the fans with my room mate, blah blah blah. Time for the rest of the parts.

Now, I am thinking down the lines of 241's for cheap. get them CNC'd. prc dual springs. ls7 lifters. (I think) ls6 rockers, Dunno the correct push rod lenths, larger intake manifold/throttle for a good price. ect.

Any advise from any LSx veterans out there will be appreciated. I'm new to this game and just want to make a 10 sec car at the end of the day even if I have to add a 150 shot to do it dammit. NOTE: Rear axle, stall and additional tune after the cam swap.

Check craigslist, I've seen barely used sets of 241's sell around here for less than $100. Used LS6 intake should run you around $350 and you'll be off to the races.

You should be able to find a decent set of heads (cnc'd) used in the $900 ballpark.

I had a guy wanting to sell me a set of already CNC's 241's for $600 but he was acting far too shady about it. I may be picking up a set today for $40 bare with just the valves to be cnc'd

If I was you I would try and find some 243 casting heads. Just bolting them on in stock form will pick up usually another 10-15rwhp and then later on down the road you can get them ported and pick up another 15-25rwhp depending on the cam. I just think the 243 heads have a lot more potential then a stock ported LS1 head does.

Your absolutely right about the 243's only reason I was steering away from it was because it's newer and more expensive to buy when I can have someone sell me a set of 241's for 50 bucks lightly used. If anyone knows someone wanting to get rid of a lightly used set of 243's for under 200. I am game, hands down,

Because a cnc set of 241's are a touch better then the 243's maybe 5-10 hp difference if I researched correctly. CNC the 243's and I'll be making a ton of power for cheap. It's getting those heads for a budget atm that is the situation. I could be wrong or close atleast.

You'd be lucky to get a set of 243s for less than 400, in good shape that dont need a valve job & seals.

Cheap head porting? Maybe if you do it yourself. Last time I checked head porting isnt cheap, I got quoted $850 from a local unknown porter
I wouldnt just let anyone port heads.

I would just look for a set of 243s, thats gonna be your best bang for your buck. Or maybe a set of used ported heads in the classifieds.

I know 243's a re pricey. the 200 was me ranting because I was trying to score a set on Ebay and they sold for 400. ***. And I know how much to get heads cnc's around here.

Here are the options as stands:

I have someone selling a set of 241 already CNC's with dual springs for 600. Seemed very shady about it though

I can buy 243's for 400

Or can Get a set of 241's for dirt cheap and get them cnc'd for maybe under 700

But power/dollar ratio is what I am all about since I got the car for $3k. So, I am seeing people suggest just getting a set of 243's and be done with it. what about a set of cnc's 241's or are the 243's practically a larger milled version of the 241's and that's why when you cnc the 241's they are still kinda close. I am trying to understand this and go the best route here.

243's and 799's (same heads) are on so many GM vehicles especially trucks they'll be plentiful in the future as more of them end up wrecked or in junkyards. As more of them become available the demand and price will also start to drop. They're not that expensive to buy now but I think they will become even more affordable in the future.

if you can afford it get the TSP heads and a ls6 intake.you can use your stock rockers if they are low mileage and not too loose.

You guys at TSP!! I hate you!!! You tempt me sooo hard. If I had the money I would have caved in too quickly. Jason, how long is that special running?

And Gary and others. Ls6 intake better then an after market? or just a budget way of going about it?
