Rocker "tap?"
#22
Mine was reved high lately, my friend's car was broken into and I went after a van who came into the neighborhood with lights off and turned around when they saw us. so yea

Ahhhh I just figured it out! My #4 spark plug was extremely lose... Now the problem is getting to it so I can tighten it properly, I got it as tight as I could with my hand in the super small space I just don't know how long it's going to hold up.
#24
I just changed all my spark plugs and cables...and rockers.. The sound is even worse now..checked the push rods if they were bent they were only slightly..idk if that would make a huge difference. but either valves, spun bearing, or something.

#26
If they're bent don't use them.
#27
is there a more precise way to tell besides rolling them on the floor or on something? bc it was super hard to tell if they were bent but I guess I can get a hardened set ad put those in and try it. if they were only very slightly bent would it cause that bad of a noise?
#28
You know what I would do? I would kill one cylinder at a time and see if that changes your noise. If it's a header leak, that would show it. It also might give you an idea as to what cylinder is causing the noise if it's another issue.

Thanks!

So i tried this today.. no results. still the horrible knock...um thinking its prob valves, pushrods, or something else.

That last video sounds exactly like mine when my pass. side header gasket blew out. I used the crap ones that came with my headers (stupid I know...) and they had cracked and pieces literally up to and inch long had blown out from between the head and flange

ya man bearings are done. As to why thats a toss up. Could be that you overrevved it and the bearings took a crap, maybe the bearings were starved from oil for a sec and thy went that way, or the 98 is known for its weaker rod bolts maybe they stretched and it went that way.
Either way pull the motor rebuild it or get another and replace the pushrods..

Do the cheap first,
Pull the heads and lifters, then you can inspect the cam and lifters, if the lifter rollers and or cam are in anyway pitted or flat, replace all of the lifters and the cam (would do the pushrods too since it's already down) provided everything else was good before the noise (oil press, temps etc.). If the lifter and cam are good then your already about a 1/3 of the way through an engine pull anyway. But I'm 99% sure its a flat cam lobe/lifter roller BTW mine ran fine and the oil press was great but it sounded just like yours, the neghbors thougth I had bought a diesel. Good Luck!
