Default what to do about heads....?? have the HotCam

Have mods current in sig. I am contimplating porting the heads and keeping the Hotcam. Buying like MTI's Stage 1 heads and keeping the hotcam or goiing with the C2 cam and S2 heads from MTI. The thing is that with my current mods i run only 1/10 second slower than my buddies M6 with C2 cam self ported heads, about the same mods as me with 4.10 gears and e.t. streets. I have great low end torque...in fact to much(thats why i'm getting e.t. streets too). I just don't want to loose my awesome low to midrange power for some top-end power. I know my buddie has more top-end but in an A4 you need a little more torque i would think. Anyways....anybody have an opinion or experience let me know. Thanks, James.

I'd say get a bigger cam and get a good torque converter before you think about heads. If you don't have a converter now your missing out on allot, there has been allot of really good results with TCI converters lately. A LS6 intake would help it breath a little more also.

Does Amarillo's track even hook anymore? We have a new track here close to Lubbock, http://www.dolacamotorplex.com/

Its all concrete and the next race should be this next Friday.

I have a converter(in sig)a yank ST3500. I have posted a best of 12.95 at 105.87mph w/ a 1.91 60' on BFG DR's. Spinning is still a major issue at our track, especially for me. The torque curve with the HOtcam is awesome and my buddies M6 SS only has a best of 12.87 and the best N/A run i've known of up here on a H/C car has been in the 12.70's(this is with e.t. streets too). Does the track hook down there? I have some friends down there and might have to try it out.

If it were me, and I planned on keeping the Hotcam, I would go for a set of CNC LS6 heads. The Hotcam has a .525 lift and the CNC heads from SDPC are designed around that. I believe that other heads expect a little higher lift. Just my 2 cents worth.

How much are these heads and who makes them?

I wouldn't recommend the GM CNC LS6 heads if they have a 250cc intake port. I can't imagine velocity is too high and that should hurt torque. I would go with a good Stage I LS1 head with more compression so you gain everywhere.

If you're looking for a reasonable Stage I head, drop me an email we can talk.

I think that a set of stage 2 heads would work good with the hot cam. Just add a set of SLP 1.85 ratio rockers to make the engine think that the cam is a bit bigger and run the sucker. Also for your traction problem, look at something like a set of Cal trac bars, I have seen these types of setups help with a fairly stock type suspension. I think Global West sells a descent peice, so look it up and see it it floats your boat. Good luck.

I can't believe my own friend is ripping my car on the internet. Don't forget I was still trying to tune my car last summer when I ran 12.83 @ 108.04.

I guess that's what I get for trying help you with your tunning.

No rippin here chris I know yours has way more top-end, especially now. All i say this is for those who like to just dog the hotcam right off the bat and that it does pretty good and remember i still haven't found traction Anyways...Eric i'll see whats happening when i get a little money and Chris i look forward to having my hat handed to me sunday. Maybe you can get some 12.50's or better. Thanks for all the help everyone. James.

James, I know you weren't ripping me. It just seemed that way when I read the thread. Both of our cars would be faster at a different track. I may not get to go to the track Sunday. My wife is about to pop.

I will talk to tomorrow at work.
