Default Best Recommended Cam For LS6 Heads

I'm doing a little budget build since I cant afford AFR, Trick Flow, etc heads right now. So I'm thinking about going with LS6 heads. I was wondering what would be the best LS6 heads/Cam set up? I drive my car every other day or so. I have a spare car so driveability isn't to big of a deal. Will be racing it quite a bit & will probably add spray. I'm a M6 & mods are in my sig. Thanks...

Are you planning on porting the heads? If so send them to AI and get them to spec a cam for it while you're at it...they sell grinds custom suited for their porting work.

If not there are several options you could go with. The MS3 loves N2O and would be nasty with just stock 243 heads. It will have a higher powerband (3500 and up) but would work great if you have an M6. You could also look into an EPS 226/230 or 230/234 grind.

Yea I would port them. I've been thinking about just going that route & sending a pair of LS6 heads to AI & then have them build me a custom cam. I was also thinking maybe a Trex cam? Don't know if that be to aggressive for LS6 heads?

How high do you want to rev?
Are you more concerned about a peak hp number or torque under the curve?
Do you care about drivability?

There are so many considerations when spec'ing a cam. its not like head casting(243) is directly related to cam specs. That being said, no a trex cam is not too big for 243 heads.

Ported LS6 heads flow plenty for a cam like a Trex but I wouldn't say that's the best cam for that combo. I would definately go with an AI grind if I had their port work on my heads. I would still do something fairly large like high 230 low 240.

Probably more torque under the curve & I don't really care about driveability... If it preforms & gets the job done Ill take that sacrifice. I have a stock muffler & will be ordering a cut out so with a cam & the cut out closed it will be pretty quiet. Might see what AI suggests..

Well if you're looking for good tq under the curve something a bit smaller could do the job and not give up too much on the topend. 230/230 on XE-R lobes would be solid and if you wanted a bit more you could do something like an EPS 230/234.

I really like my LG G5x3. With supporting mods and a ported Fast 92 I made 440/400 with my 02 Z06. The heads have never been touched, other than upgraded springs.

I would do cam only for now. There is no point in changing the heads twice.

Send your heads to Richard@WCCH if i were you.. Being in cali, you could only go so big. I think a 224/228 and those heads from WCCH will be a nice setup.

228/232 .590/.595 112 is a great camshaft to be paired up with your heads, intake and cubic inch size combo.

Alright thanks for the info guys! I'm not really to scared about cam size with living in Cali. I mean I don't pass smog to begin with so going with a big cam or whatever doesn't really bother me. Now I have a stock muffler & a cut out so it will still be pretty dam quiet.
