Default Trick Flow Heads/cam kit

http://www.summitracing.com/parts/TFS-K306-515-460/

Stumbled on this in my new summit catalog, Does't seem like a bad deal just curious if any of you guys have ever seen it in action. It say 510 h.p. (I assume crank H.P.) but it seems like it wouldn't be that hard to tune either..

Not a bad kit if you consider everything included..I proabably got $1000 invested in used LS6 Heads and Intake with a used Comp 224/230 .590" cam. Definatley making atleast 475 at the crank from quarter mile times. Obviouly the trickflow are def better, as well as the added bonus of the cam being developed for those particular heads....i like that kit, just dont got that kind of chedda lol...

I'd like to know if that is at the wheels or crank...assuming crank though.

I'd bet my life savings that to the crank numbers. You'll need a lot more than that to make over 500 at the wheels.

I suppose so. But even still, that's pretty good...if you have a full exhaust and LS6 intake, you're pretty damn close.

Seems awfully pricy for what you get.

Damn I thought that was a good deal haha shows you how much I know.. How loapy would that cam be? It doesn't seem like a very radical cam for the power it puts out.

If you are going to spring for Trick Flows I would get them from a head assembler such as Total Engine Airflow. That way you can have some input on things like valve spring selection, valve guides selection (bronze vs. powdered metal), and whether and how much to mill the heads. TEA can also provide the cam other components as part of a package deal.

+1, Call TEA and tell them what you want. I have done it twice and always have had good results.

Just depends on what you get. With the powdered metal guides you can run stock rockers which are nice and will save you some money. Call and talk to Mike and let him know what you want and go from there.

Make sure you do this and also there are WAAAY better cams out there than the one in that kit.

I ordered my package from vengeance racing during their labor day sale and saved big time. The heads were assembled with better springs and the correct valve guides. Vengeance's customer service was top notch and they took the time to answer all my questions and made great recommendations. They made it easy on a tough decision I had to make.

TEA's prices are competitive with any other supplier of the same components.

Vengeance is definately great to deal with. I almost ordered that kit from them, they were actually much more helpful over the phone than TSP. Just couldn't justify an extra 1k for heads when I only drive my car 300miles a year. So I went with a GM casting.

Would I be better off with G.M. heads like 243's and like an MS3 cam or would it be worth the money to go with Trick Flows?

If you already own a set of 243s, having TEA rework them would provide a lot of bang for the buck. However, if you have to acquire a set of 243s first it is less cost- effective. For the same coin you could likely get the Trick Flow 220 as cast heads. The Trick Flow 215s will cost more, but do have more power potential. I would discuss the options with TEA.
