Default Will this motor work for my Camaro

I have a 1998 Z28 Camaro, I came across a 2005 Escalade 6.0L motor for cheap. Its a complete motor pan to alternator/intake, engine harness and computer. Can I bolt this in my camaro and set it up?

yes it will work. you will have to swap out the oil pan, tray, pickup tube, intake, crank pulley, accessories, coil packs and oil pressure switch... oh, and the water pump

Easy enough when the motors are on stands.

If it is out of an Escalade, then it is the 345hp lq9. Lq4 is 25 less hp and lower compression.

um.. they don't?

you have an LQ9 there. Good find.

What you need to make it work.. Fbody oil pan, windage tray, pickup tube, dipstick and tube, ls1 fbody crank pulley, water pump and accessories, ls1/6/fast car intake, VERIFY THAT IT IS A 24X RELUCTOR WHEEL. (should be. if it looks like 2 gears it's 24x, if it's 1 it's 48x and you will need an adapter module for the pcm to understand it.)

you can leave it as is and get ~345crank HP stock, or you can drop in a cam and wake it up real easy.

depending A4 or 6MT, you will of course need the appropriate parts for your flywheel/flexplate from the ls1 and the ls1 starter.

stock ls1 fuel rails don't seem to like the coils that come on it, that's probably why people say to swap em, but with some creativity you can get it to work. do the coils on the 6.0 have heatsinks on top? if so they are better than the stock ls1 coils.

you will want to consider drilling a hole in the small tab on the right hand side of the block just below the head (facing the front of the engine) for your alternator bracket. I don't think you HAVE to do this, but it may make things easier. The Lq4/9 blocks do not have the hole inside the cylinder wall that Ls1s have so you wil lbe down 1 hole, but you don't need it.

also, if it's a newer motor a "gen IV" you'll have VVT and other crap to deal with.

but I don't think you hav eto deal with all that on a LQ9. I think they didn't implement that till the L92.

They don't have to be switched but they do sit up higher towards the fuel rail than the stock ones. If you spark plug wires are fairly new then keep the ls1s but if there not and need them use the truck coils.

U can use the truck coil packs if want but not necessary. If they are the d585 coil packs(canister shape with heat sinks) sell them or use them. They are said to be the better of all ls coil packs although require to bend the fuel rail inlet some. For clearance. No lq4/9 motors were 58x. So it will drop In and plug in. It's a gen 3 motor like the ls1.all the electronics on motor interchange

400? hell ya i'd grab that even if i didnt need it thats a good deal for an lq9 if its in good shape. if you can just check the oil for signs of issues and maybe do a compression test if possible

Yes very good deal ,,,,,You can sell the wiring harness and computer for probably $200 and the accessories n oil pan etc ...........for another $200 and have You're (with a cam) tq monster for free . Oh , and prob the easiest way to tell if it's gen 3 or 4 is timing cover for gen 3's don't have cam sensor n gen 4's have cam sensor in the timing cover .

a GM block has a stamping on the front and rear of the engine designating it's size.

You can see mine in this pic

LQ4s have dished pistons and are iron block motors. most 5.3s are too, cant'; say about a 5.3's pistons tho.

4.8's and 5.3's have 4.8/5.3L stamped on the rear of the block under the bell housing if it's got a tranny mated to it actually if it has a tranny it would be under the flexplate/flywheel .

that stamping is on the front of the block on some 4.8/5.3s as well in the same spot as the 6.0L stamping as shown in my pic.

spotted a 4.8 in the salvage yard next to my 6.0 that had it.

OK, It is a 6.0 thats stamped, I was looking for a number code though, couldnt find anything. It has the 317 heads on it and no sensor in the timing cover. I bought it and will have pics coming soon. The last question is and I know I am a pain in the *** and im sorry but you guys are awesome here, the motor has wiring harness and the computer, what do I need to use? Do I use my stock wiring harnes and computer or do I use the 6.0 harness and 6.0 computer. Thanks for all the help everyone.

And also it has a fly by wire T/B on it, does this pose a problem or is that an easy thing also? (A buddy of mine told me it was an issue)

no cause you wont be using that throttle body ECM or wiring harness, basicly all you want is the long block and swap everything from your LS1 onto it. use your ECM and harness not the escelade
