Default Can a 2.00 intake valve be used on a 5.3 cylinder head?

Title says it. I've read some posts that say yes and some that say no so I haven't been able to find a clear answer. If the answer is yes, what kind of work would be involved in making it happen? Thanks.

As far as I know they already have 2 inch valves. The ls1 is 2.05 I believe.

And yes, it is common to put bigger ls1 valves in a 5.3 head. They will have to have the seats cut to accept the larger valve, not sure if it has to be replaced or not.

They don't have 2 inch valves, they have 1.89 intake/1.55 exhaust. Same exhaust valve size as the ls1 but smaller intake valve size. I was thinking that if the 2.00 valve could be adapted a person could just swap over their stock ls1 intake valves.

You could use the 2.00", but it would do no good unless you cut the valve job for a 2.00" valve.

All day every day, but the heads will need a valve job.

Will the seat hold a 2.00 valve or will that have to be replaced?

It will probably be cut to fit during the valve job.

Also a 2.00" valve in a 5.3L head will be really close to the edge of the combustion chamber thus will be somewhat shrouded . So if it will be used in an engine with a larger bore than 3.779" then You can easily enlarge the combustion chamber to match the bore .

no but shrouding the valve will hurt airflow, my guess is, installing a 2.0 intake in an otherwise stock 5.3 head and bolting it to a 5.3 engine, wont net you much. opening the chamber to allow airflow around the larger valve will net you more.

He just said it's a stock LS1(note LS1) not a 5.3 long block. That means it's a 3.89 bore motor and a 2.00 intake valve is what the LS1's came with stock.

You will have no valve shrouding issues.

I missed that part, but it will still shroud the valve as the 5.3 head has a smaller combustion chamber

OP, what are you trying to accomplish here? Stock 5.3 heads are junk, if you aren't porting them then what are you trying to accomplish?

^^^ Porting 5.3 castings. Keep the stock exhaust valve, swap the intake valve for the 2.00 ls1 intake valve.

Re-purposing parts I already have is cheaper than buying a set of aftermarket valves.

So is combustion chamber work needed?

I think what 01redssa4 is getting at is you will have more work and money in the 5.3 heads making them as good as stock ls1 heads.

So a milled and ported set of 241s is the better choice? BTW I currently have stock 853 heads.

853 heads are ls1 heads.
