i want a BIGGER cam, need help!
-right now i got a "218/224-112-560/574"
-car makes 385 rwhp & 365 rwtq
ideally, shouldn't the torq # be higher than the hp# ?
-last week ran a new best of 11.72 @ 115.87 w/ 1.62 60'
almost always get a new best everytime i go to the track
-not a daily driver, got a stock '02 Z28 for that
-mileage:
12,000
-induction:
slp cold air duct
k&n filter
tsp lid
slp maf
smooth bellows
tpis 100/90 mm throttlebody
ported LS6 intake
-exhaust:
tpis long tube headers
y-pipe, hi-flo cats, slp loudmouth SOON to be replaced w/ duals & X-pipe

basically i'm looking for a cam that makes "plenty" of power! one that would be a "noticable" difference over the 218/224-112 that i got now, i need all the help i can get to power this heavy vert down the track!

I believe your throttle body is too big for your combination. You are probably loosing some torque with that setup. I will bet if you put an 80mm or a ported TB on you would gain 20ft lbs of torque.
If you are gonna run that setup you DO need a bigger cam! Something around 230 duration @ .050" will probably pay off for you.

The bigger TB's disease is somewhat similar to the bigger carb disease. Inexperienced people think that bigger is always better. IE, they put a huge cam on a stock manifold/head car. The engine can only handle so much air/fuel flow, and that restriction is based upon intake, valve sizes, head dynamics (porting, chamber size, etc), cam specs (lift, durations, lsa, etc), and the exhaust system. If the engine can't move the air, placing a carb/TB bigger than the engine can demand accomplishes nothing. Too big, and it can actually hurt engine air flow. Seen it a gazillion times on carburated cars, where someone puts a huge carb (looks cool) on a hyperventilating engine, stomp on the gas and blllloooooogggggggg....engine bogs big time.
I don't know exactly how the engine reacts to a too large TB. Maybe someone in the know will chime in.
But in this case, your current cam is your bottleneck to better times. I think yor motor's potential is seriously underfed right now.

I would be willing to bet your torque converter is too tight for that cam. You need a 4000 rpm stall if your peak torque is aroun 4500 rpm. 1.62 60' is a little high for what you have. I ran a 1.496 with my 218/218, .528 lift cam.

In regards to the throttle body vs carb comparison.
It doesn't work on these cars.
Carb relies on air velocity to keep fuel atomized. Lose velocity and you'll get the bog. The manifold is "wet".
Port fuel injection (what the LS1 has) atomizes the fuel via the injectors. The manifold is "dry".
To determine if you need to go bigger on the intake tract, watch the MAP sensor during WOT. If you see the engine pulling vacuum, you're not feeding it enough air. If you stay near atmospheric with the MAP, the engine is using as much air as it can.
I have a BBK twin-58mm throttle body and ported intake manifold on my 4.3L-equipped 94Z. Yeah, overkill. It's a bolt on left over from my heads and cam motor that decided to go boom. Watching the MAP, I don't see much of a pressure drop at WOT on the MAP sensor. But the car runs just fine. Plenty of pep. It's not fast, by any means, because it's a stock iron headed 4.3L motor. IMO, if you've already got the throttle body, leave it. I don't think it's hurting anything, especially if you're looking for good ET's out of the car.

thanks guy, this is some real good info! heres my latest dyno sheet from a while back but shouldn't have changed any since i've only added suspension mods and drag rims, thanks again, this is good stuff!
