Cam options for 5.3 turbo build
Hello again. Looks like for now I will be using a stock 5.3 longblock with turbo to try to reach my goal of 600-625rwhp. Wanting to see what the best cam options would be for this setup. I will be street driven alot so not looking for crazy power. Also best bang for the buck on good springs and whatever else it would need. I'm also thinking about the ported/shimmed oil pump for it. Any idea if that's worth it and which brand is best? Car is a 67 camaro with t56 and fab-9 rear with 4.30 gears. Thanks, T.

I'd look at the 228, keep your lift just under .600" to let your valve springs last longer and around a 116 lsa. A good set of beehive springs and I like and run the Melling high volume high pressure pump I think the part number is 10296....you will want the extra oil it pumps out to keep the engine and turbo well oiled

I'm in the middle of a turbo 5.3 build right now for my thirdgen. I bought a new LS9 cam from my local Chevy dealer for $110. You'll need an LS2 timing cover with the cam sensor to use the LS9 cam - I got a one used for $50. This cam should produce more power than the LS6 cam for the same price, and the same power as a custom cam for half the price.

I'm guessing that cam keeps the mid to lower powerband and very mild idle as its a oem cam? Not sure if I want that smooth of an idle or not. I have gotten a little spoiled to feeling a little vibration thru the car and intimidating sound. But on the other hands it has sleeper quality. In a fully backhalfed first gen with 18inch wide rear tires Im not suprising anybody lol.

Edit: You may want to rethink that 4.30 gearset with the turbo setup!
