Why? It was a Comp...ffs get off my sack.
What I'm saying, because apparently you don't understand, is that Comp Cams uses garbage cores and that they go bad on ALL applications.

I suppose all things in this world are going to wear down expecially in an environment of friction and vibration.
I always replace the stock lifters with new lifters when I do a cam swap. I hear it all the time, "they dont have very many miles on them" and I say "yeah, but they are 12 years old, its not fine wine".

How many miles were on the valve springs?
My car had the exact same issue a few months back... Put a new cam and lifters in it and a few thousand miles later it happened again, only one lobe each time. Turned out to be worn prc springs. Put a new set in along with new lifters and its been going strong since.

I use oil with Hi Zinc in it just for this. I know it is a roller and the zinc should not be needed but you have higher then stock spring pressures and egresive ramp rates, I like the benifits zinc gives you.
You will wipe out a flat tappet cam if you are not careful with your oil selection. They have to have the zinc.
All Valvoline ZR1 racing oils have the zinc packages, as well as a few other oils.
Just saying it might have something to do with it.

I had a TSP 224 for several years and decided to change to the MS4, my car has 36k on it. I only put less then 600 miles on the cam when I heard a very bad valve train noise, I looked threw the cam hole and saw that the lifter did not spin. I have not removed the lifter yet and was wondering if anybody has seen this, I have seen many stock truck engines do this at work.
You have a picture of the lifter?

yes you can have the cam re ground but then it MUST MUST MUST MUST MUST be heat treated. it cost around $125 to have a crank nitrated im sure a cam is around the same. buy a new cam don't wast your money re grinding. Re grind with out heat treat = ****

I had a G5x2 cam do the EXACT same failure last year. 11 of the 16 lobes had scores on them, many of those looked like the one pictured. The remaining 5 had a visual color difference but not scored.
Car had 16k when I bought it, cam crapped out by 18k. Mod's were on the car sometime arround 12k. Had upgraded springs and pushrods when the cam was done.
I suspect over reving or an oiling issue. Or, just a bad set of lifters. Who really knows? Chicken or the egg then for sure.

Take a file and drag it across the undamaged lobes of the cam. It should not scratch the cam. Don't bear down on the file, let the file's own weight drag on the lobe surface. This will give you an "indication" that the heat treat may be bad. If it appears to be a heat treat issue, then you may want to get more testing done on the cam.

if comp does the regrind they will heat treat again......i am with texas on this, oil may be one of the largest contributing factors in cam failure. sabastian, i can say you definitely had a bad or non-heated treated core to damage that many lobes. i would send it in for a regrind and let it ride......$.02
