2001 Trans AM needs your help! **Experts Wanted**
sorry if this is not in the right section but im not sure where to put it.
my friend has an 01 TA that has some decent work to it and it is not running how it should at all. there is no hesitations and when you WOT it smokes the tires with ease. but when he goes up against a bolton ls1 they are dead even and even the bolton car pulls ahead in higher speeds. he also had his motor replaced with the one in the link below. his car made 352hp 347tq on a dynopack dyno that connects to the hubs.
his mods are as follows:
Volant CAI, SLP smooth bellow, Borla Catback, Long tubes, LS2 Timing Chain, Vig 3200 Stall, 228R Cam, 20k BTU tranny cooler, 160 thermostat, callies compstar 6.125 connecting rods
228R 228/228 .588"/.588" Camshaft

ive heard hes running lower compression from that motor due to the -8.6cc diamond dished pistons he is using (idk how true that is)
Bore 3.905
Stroke 3.622
Deck Height .005
Head gasket thickness 0.045
Head CC: 64cc
Piston: Dish -8.6cc Diamonds
were all just really puzzled on why he isnt putting car lengths on other bolton ls1's.

Any track times? That cam and converter should have a minimum 3.73 gear for best performance The dyno numbers for a cammed/stalled auto can read low and not tell the whole story. You say it smokes the tires with ease, if he is smoking the tires while racing your losing ET so tell him to look at his suspension/tiresetup/gear. I do agree that apples to apples that car should beat a bolt on car but don't sleep on them if the bolt on car is setup right they still surprise the crap out of people when they have the "driver mod"

i also believe his numbers are a little low, but every dyno reads different and its not just the numbers were concerned about. the fact that when racing from a 40roll against another a4 car with just boltons and hes neck and neck and even comes close to losing top end; its just really confusing.

You may want to do a compression check to verify that the engine is in good shape. Rule that out first and then hook a wideband o2 sensor up to verify the AFR.

If the car feels sluggish then have him do the basics make sure all the maintenance is checked. plugs, wires, do a compression check. Even though the motor is brand new it was still built so a small error could have been made. Also check for possible intake manifold leaks etc. Good luck and let us know the outcome.

could be the efficiency of converter. on a N/A car I would assume you don't want a really loose stall. maybe a little bit tighter. could be the cause of the low whp too. I made 404whp on a 224r cam and LS heads w/ a ported fast 90, full exhaust. I know I am a 6 speed though.

when the converter flashes at WOT does it throw u in the seat?
at a 40 roll is the converter flashing and not downshifting?
is it loosing fuel pressure?
and the list goes on and on

it downshifts like it should and it def throws me in the seat. i wouldnt know if its losing fuel pressure :/. it feels fast with no hesitations and drives like how it should. it was also tuned twice by the same company.
