Default First look....new LSX lifters

For some people, sanity comes in a bottle or a pill. For me, sanity comes in the form of $560.00 US Mail deliveries!

As some of you might know, I've been fighting the dreaded "sewing machine from hell" noise on my daily driver. It had a couple lifters rattling from day one.....now....3k miles later... they scream in near-unison. Oil pressure is fine. I've tried EVERYTHING to make it right...triple-checked spring pressures, 4 different viscosity oils, 2 different preloads...no dice. It just keeps friggin' rattling!

So today, a little light at the end of the tunnel;

Pictures don't really do them justice....even though it's "just" a lifter set. They really appear to be a nice product. I realize that they're not anything as fancy as a link-bar setup (they offer those too), but I guess I'm just excited to share what I believe to be the solution to my daily frustration and high blood pressure.

At the manufacturer's request, I'm currently unable to mention them by name. That should change shortly. I can tell you, however, that these carry a LIFETIME warranty...and are made right here in the USA. Also, customer service with these folks was the best...and I mean THE BEST! Great folks to talk to, and VERY helpful. If the product is as good as everything else they've done for me so far, then they've just gained one very happy loyal customer.

I'll be documenting the "before and after" removal/replacement of the Z06 cam and faulty LS7 lifters once EPS ships my new cam and springs in the next few weeks......stay tuned!

So for any of us who may be looking for lifters, where did you get them and how much did they run?

To clarify, you've been fighting LS7 lifter noise with just a Z06 cam? That's interesting because it seems that most people that have problems with LS7 lifter noise are running larger cams with more aggressive ramp rates/profiles. This is the first I've really read of problems with such a small cam with LS7 lifters.

I ran the dreaded Comp R lifters with a TREX V2 heads/cam setup, and it was much quieter than stock...virtually no valvetrain noise at all. Its all about getting the preload right. I had PRC dual platinums (.670" lift), the preload was at .020" which was within Comps specs for those lifters.

Did you consider the COMP short-travel, link bar lifters - 15956-16 for ~ $555 from Summit Racing?

These would allow you to get rid of the plastic lifter trays that are not benefical for oil drain back.

Yep. "Street" version. Cast lifter bodies. And good for you. I didn't go with link bars for a reason. 1)Cam profile does not justify it, & 2)link bars have a noise of their own...nothing like I'm dealing with now, but I'm wanting as close to silent as possible.

And for those that think my problems are related to installation....think again. The current set was installed @.080 (gm spec)...then changed to .050 to try to allow a little more "cushion". The problem remains, and is getting worse daily.

Correct. There SHOULD be no problem with the current setup, yet here I am having to pull the heads again.

I see the pre-load for the Comp "R" lifter misinterpreted quite often. It's actually .002"-.004".

COMP Cams® Pro Magnum Hydraulic Roller Lifters™ are specifically designed to perform at higher engine speeds. When engines are equipped with a hydraulic camshaft, high rpm is limited by the improper position of the internal piston as the lifter inevitably "pumps up". This improper location results in open valves and therefore leads to lost power or sometimes even engine failure. NOTE: These lifters require an adjustable valve train (check here for adjustable valve train components), and must be pre-loaded to .002" to .004" for proper operation!

From the manufacturer of the new lifters....just in case people are curious;

Set preload in the .036-.056 range. These have less travel than LS7's, but still have a pretty open window for preload.

No offese intended, sounds like you've got the pre-load covered, are you certain the noise is coming from the lifters? or possibly elsewhere in the engine?

It will be interesting to see if you find any components that show signs of failure.
