Default Trickflow 225's on a 3.90 bore 346

Guys,

I've used the search function quite and bit and there doesn't seem to be much out there. I found an absolute screaming deal on a set of Trickflow 225 CNC'd heads. Wanted to see what feedback there would be on using them on my stock internal 346 LS6. I know you CAN do it because I've seen Brian Tooley post that it can be done. You need a 4.0 bore gasket. I sent him an email but never got a response.

Question is this: What will I be leaving on the table by using the 225s? And is there anyone who has done it and do they have any dyno numbers?

Also - They're going to come with Comp Ultra Gold 1.82 rockers. I'm going to go with a new custom spec'd cam, do you think there would be any downside to keeping the 1.82 ratio or should I ditch them for a 1.7?

If anyone has a set of 215's they would want to trade let me know!

YES you can run afr 225's on a 346, 383 as I did and as Tony Mamo said. The smaller bore shrouds the valves is all. I would say you will not get the total benefit of the head but they will make plenty more power.

You will have less P to V with a larger valve also.....something to keep in mind if your getting semi aggressive with the cam and plan on not flycutting your pistons.

For an aggressive 346 build that you did plan on flycutting, milling the heads for more static compression, and getting aggressive with the camshaft its a good choice.....wont have as much bottom end as a 215 but it will make more power upstairs.

Planning the right combination is paramount.....the question you need to ask yourself is do these 230 heads fit the bill for what your looking to do? If your getting aggressive with it I think your in good shape.

Don't forget the PRC 227 heads. They are configured for 3.9" bore & are the highest flowing 3.9" heads on the market. We can build them with a 59cc chamber & clear MS4 size camshafts without cutting the pistons! I believe you'll find no other head can offer this.

Small chamber, highest head flow on 3.9" bore, .675" springs standard, good p/v even with milling, the list of reasons the PRC 227 head is the best 3.9" bore option goes on & on & on..

TFS 225 will go on without any problems on a 3.9xx bore, but the pistons and camshaft play a big role piston to valve clearance.

Thanks for the responses guys! I think some of you missed the boat though that I already purchased a set of the Trickflow 225's which have the smaller 2.055 intake valve not the bigger AFR valve. Shouldn't be as much of a problem with valve shrouding. I know it isn't ideal but the reason I bought these is because I'm gettin them fully assembled with roller rockers for an absolutely smoking deal.

Sounds like i'll lose a little low end, which i'm not supper enthused about because this is 90% a street car, but I'll live with it.

I also wanted some input on using the comp ultra gold 1.82 rockers that are going to come with these heads. If I get a custom cam spec'd to go with the rockers will I be ok or is there any downside to using the 1.82 ratio? Will that move me to a custom lenth pushrod? Any downside to that? I'm just trying to decide if I should keep them or sell them and buy a 1.7 ratio set.

EDIT: I'm really not wanting to flycut with this setup because I'm not looking to be a world beater. My goal is to make 470RWHP with these heads, custom cam, and FAST90/90 on my C5 Z06. Does anyone think that getting a cam big enough to meet that goal will cause me problems?

I was running 243's from advanced induction with a 226 runner and had no issues at all on y old 346. 540 rwhp and 11.1@124 with a 150 shot on street tires. They flow 300+cfm's@.600 lift. Am putting the same heads on a forged 6L am working on for a 200 shot of nitrous and looking for a 10 sec pass on street tires.
