Did you swap out the stall for a smaller one and gain some power?

Ive heard that when you get a stall converter it can actually lower your hp readings on a dyno, so you might get 400 rwhp but it will not show on the dyno. Not a 100% sure on this. I might go with a 3600 stall and the 228 cam as well seems to be a recommended combo.

Those numbers are with the current stall. Being a Auto, Your transmission is going to eat some of the power. A converter is amazing thing. I highly recommend a 3600+. I would get one of the Texas Speed Torquer cams if you want 400+ hp and still be able to DD with no problem.

I don't want to over do the stall now just decide 3200-3600.

Well those choices are on 2 completely opposite ends of the spectrum lol! If it were me I'd do like a 3600 stall and 228r for a DD for sure. My buddy has a polluter with a 4k stall and 4:10's in an auto, but doesn't DD

How bad would it be with a 228 with stock stall til I get the yank? I don't have a problem not gunning it til it's all done. Or just easier to buy it and install it all at once?

I ran without a stall for awhile. With the 228R. Thats why I went so small on the cam. Frost called me nuts lol. But he was able to do it. You have to hold the brakes alot harder. At low speeds it will go in like cruise control. It was a little annoying at first. You can get use to it.

Can you yes. should you no

Would holding the brakes harder be a problem? Like mine at a light there's a hum coming from the front passenger side. Only in drive and brakes pressed.

If you can't do a cam and converter at the same time, do a converter first. A cam without a converter will make you hate the car.

Then do the converter first. Do the cam and tune second. In the other order you won't be happy.

Well how fast are you going to get your cam swap, ported heads and other supporting mods done?

I just read the thread title for a dd 228 hands down. Big cams are no budget way of going fast if ya dont do supporting mods it will kill a big cams performance

Chillax a little bit and think about what you want. You can throw a big cam in it and a bunch of parts that wont work together. But then you will wonder why someone with a 228 cam just put a whoopin on ya.

Iv decided 228. Just need stall and minor **** like trans cooler. I told a friend that's been racing for about 6 years the cam he said its really not big enough cam to need a stall. I can get one but not much gain? His 67 ss has a 3200 runs 7.0 in 1/4. The 228 starts around what 1800 to.. 5k? I can't find where I saw the power band.

Without supporting mods for the polluter you will not be happy, mods like 4.10 gears at the very least, duals, fast intake,injectors,chris1313,killer heads etc, all those mods and more will help a big cam, what i would do is have a custom cam or something, you can get a big cam sound on a much smaller profile and have a better running car, also having a 98 ls1 i would think about upgrading the rod bolts sice with a huge cam your going to be spinning the rpms to the moon,i have a ms4 in my car, its a badass cam but i would have been better off going with a mid 230s cam, but to late for that, well op hope you get what your looking for
