Hey guys,
I've been researching on buying an LS6, but just thought would it be possible to order the individual parts that would make it an LS6?
Sorry if its such a noob question
I don't know too much about internals......... Since I already have an LS1 thats going to be taken apart soon. figured it'd be worth a shot

a low-high 22X/22X duration cam with under .600 lift is what you are looking into.
Couple that with the required springs/push rods/timing chain/oil pump and you will love the gains... Add an ls6 intake and a set of heads and you are getting to business.

Look into something like a 228R from TSP or smaller.. That would give you great driving manners with even a mail order tune and still make awesome power for a 100% street car.

Also.. You are an automatic?
You will HAVE to figure in the price of a torque converter and a trans cooler, it is not an option... You have to have one before you install a cam.

Yeah I'm trying to learn more about torque converters and find one that is good for the street as well...

I like PTC for the converter... Look into a 3400-3600. Plenty streetable with all the benefits.

224R or 228R cam.. I would go with the 228R, everyone always wishes they went bigger. 112 LSA
PAC 1218 springs would be fine
Call and ask which push rod length you would need
That is your cam/springs/push rods.. You will still need to buy an ls2 timing chain and an ls6 oil pump, both are on TSPs web site just look around.
Kyle at thompson motorsports has some nice packages as well for a killer price.

Since you have an automatic look at atound a 3,600 stall (get a good one like a Yank or Vig) that won't come apart and send their converter clutch through out the tranny and trash it.
You can go to your local auto parts store and pick up a tranny cooler in the rv/ towing section for about $50.
A 228 is a pretty good all around cam if your really not sure what you want and it will give you good gains all over the entire rpm range of the motor.
Ported ls6 oil pump and ls2 chain
Also you will need a tune and look for a deal on an ls6 intake.
If you have more money to spend get dome milled off of your heads and a good valve job or pick up a set of ported 243 or 5.3 heads.
Font forget you will need head bolts and gaskets

LS6 is only an engine RPO code.
The engine blocks are the same in the later years. It depends on what year you have.
Other than that, the only difference is the cylinder heads (243 vs 241s) and camshaft.
Again depending on the year, the LS1 got the same intake as the LS6.
If you were going to transform an LS1 to an LS6 I would go a different cam as well.

So to recap: Technically, no you cannot make a LS6 out of a LS1. What can be done is run LS6 heads and cam on a LS1 but it will still be a LS1.
