cam manners
Hello all, this is my first build with the rectangle port heads. Here are the specs, 30k mile lq4 stock internals except new ls2 flat top pistons, l92 heads milled .015, gm head gasket, Im gonna be using the suv intake. My question is i got my hands on a 454lsx cam (.600 lift 236@.05 in 246@.05 ex 110lsa) by some horse trading. the engine is going in a obs 2wd tahoe, i already have a 3400 stall w/373 gears. have any of you guys ran this cam on a smaller displacement engine, if so: how is the midrange power. I dont want to twist this thing much over 6500rpm. Im trying to talk myself into this cam, but i dont know. The intake duration and lift is great on this stick, im concerned that it may have to much exhaust duration for a street motor.
Thanks
Thanks

I know, thats alittle heavy for a big truck, it may be ebay or racing junk bound. the gmpp asa cam looks real good. I would like to keep the mtr all GM as possible. I do like the 228r cam

I take it your putting this cam in a 406? If you are, you'll be fine, the extra cubes really eat up the duration....in my 408 I'm running a 255/263 and it has about the same manners as a mid 230's cam in a stock cube 346

no its a 364cid the 406 in the name tag is a gen1 with 24x conversion, it runs real good it only has a couple thousand miles on it. I wanted to put a ls in it to begin with, but i had a fresh 406 6 inch rod short block lying around. on one hand i think this cam would work ok, a bit of a @#$ to tune. Its just hard to spend another 400 bucks for a cam when i have one. but on the other hand i only want to do it once.

Closest thing I can help you with, I had a 238/242 in my 346 and daily drove it and loved it, but honestly it was too big for the stock cube ls1.....the extra cubes of the 6.0 will help tame it down, but honestly think it will be too big for your app.....another thong you could do is sell it and use that money towards s smaller cam......I just wish we all had more money to blow, then that would make all the trial and error easy lol

thanks mark, my idea of a street car is radical as crap than most people like. another thing that will help this cam is comp will be close to 11.1. as we get older putting in neutral at red light cleaning it out gets old, but again this isnt going to be a dd, Its a hot rod tahoe (if there is such a thing). but i think i may try this thing out, good news is its easy to swap out if i dont like it. Its just using these heads with intake ports you can stick your fist in and a mild/hot hyd. roller, just worried about the torque curve from 2.8k to 6k. In a perfect world we could have a 250 @ .050 idle at 1000rpm with the a/c on. wouldnt that be nice. but then again as i type this i go back to selling this thing for a slightly smaller stick...gotta have that a/c on with decent driveability.
