I am going to be installing the Brute Speed blower cam, I am installing stock 317 heads also. I am not planning on putting in a high volume pump or timing chain. My oil pressure is about 40 at idle. I really dont want to mess with the oil pick up tube. I am planning on putting in a built motor in about two years. Any suggestions.

Ultimately will come down to personal opinion. A lot of people choose to do it for the simple fact they have everything apart down there anyway. I think its a wise decision to replace it but definitely not a requirement if everything was in great working order before the swap. Timing chain would be something I recommend for sure though.

With the added stress of new valve springs, you really should put a new timing set in.

As noted, LS2 chain. The only thing that I know of that has failed in an LS oil pump (gear pump) is the spring. So, if you wanted to do anything regarding the oil pump, could just replace the spring w/ a stock replacement. No need to use an aftermarket high pressure spring.

I would for piece of mind. I didn't when I initially put the cam in my 2000 SS I had, but the car only had 16k miles on it. I left the pump and chain. At about 35k miles I replaced the chain and pump and I am glad I did as I ended up hitting it with a 100 shot. I would do it now so you don't have to worry about it.
