Default Am I going to regret not putting in an oil pump with cam install.

I am going to be installing the Brute Speed blower cam, I am installing stock 317 heads also. I am not planning on putting in a high volume pump or timing chain. My oil pressure is about 40 at idle. I really dont want to mess with the oil pick up tube. I am planning on putting in a built motor in about two years. Any suggestions.

Ultimately will come down to personal opinion. A lot of people choose to do it for the simple fact they have everything apart down there anyway. I think its a wise decision to replace it but definitely not a requirement if everything was in great working order before the swap. Timing chain would be something I recommend for sure though.

Oil pump really isn't something that goes out in LS style motors, but te timing chains are a weak point.

You'll be fine without doing the pump, but timing chain I would definitely do. Just a stock ls2 chain would be good

With the added stress of new valve springs, you really should put a new timing set in.

I've seen good and bad results. I've never replaced a pump, but most of my work has been on 01-02 cars which come factory with the ls6 pump.

01-02 cars come with an ls6 pump? I wasn't aware of that, and what is the key benefit over an LS1 pump?

Wasn't that bad getting the p/u tube in but I understand not wanting to mess with it. If you decide to get one PM me and I'll send you a link for a place that sells them for $100.

Just did a cam swap on mine and it has 51k on the clock. Left the pump and chain. It's just a driver though. It doesn't get any serious thrashing.

I would do the pump just for piece of mind, but definitely do the timing set.

As noted, LS2 chain. The only thing that I know of that has failed in an LS oil pump (gear pump) is the spring. So, if you wanted to do anything regarding the oil pump, could just replace the spring w/ a stock replacement. No need to use an aftermarket high pressure spring.

I would for piece of mind. I didn't when I initially put the cam in my 2000 SS I had, but the car only had 16k miles on it. I left the pump and chain. At about 35k miles I replaced the chain and pump and I am glad I did as I ended up hitting it with a 100 shot. I would do it now so you don't have to worry about it.
