Are Comp Lifters Better Than LS7 Lifters?
#22
J Glen - Sounds like you might have some inside info there LOL. But even if they "buy them from the same place" does that mean they are physically the same piece? Maybe Comp has provided different specifications for clearances, tolerances, etc.? Thanks for any info you can provide.....

Numbers are not adding...Comp is +/- $70 above...that's % their margin on the same product GM is selling by thousands for the same end profit with a lower margin...
I would follow someone's advice that knows about Lifter Business!
Buy Mexican, and be happy with.

Just an idea, but the noise could be the exhaust valve closing due to the faster ramp rate of the lobes. The XER's had really fast ramp near .005" so I get a bit or "sewing" machine. No lifter change or preload change helped. I haven't tried a cam with a different lobe profile but I will be in the near future.
I had Pat G spec be a cam that controlled the exhaust better and I think it used LXL or LSL lobes, cannot remember which, but I never got around to having it made. i am currently using the comp XER profile that comes with the TSP 228r cam.

I thought it was at first, but after a few good hard runs, it was the same noisey torture.
This is going to sound weird, but if my car sits for a long period of time (like weeks) the lifters will be quiet when I first start driving it again. It does not last long though.

That seems to be the consensus......in some cases. In my case I can't hear all the valves closing which you would think would be the case if the lobe design was at fault. It's more like I hear 2 or 3 ticking noises at cam speed, and it's more prominent between 1500 and 1900 rpm. Since I've tried all different pre-loads on all rockers I can only conclude that I have a few lifters that just aren't happy.

Well that's interesting. He said he was with Straub Technologies and from looking at their website it looks to me like they are an internet parts distributor. No mention of lifter manufacturing. Regardless, I am looking for advice but at this point I don't think he has made a recommendation, other than essentially 'don't waste money on Comps because they are the same as LS7 lifters'.

1. Used $400 Morel race lifters (thanks, Miami)
2. New $600 Morel race lifters
3. New $380 Morel or Lunati "street" lifters for OEM cams / limited RPM
4. Play LS7 lifter Russian roulette and hope I get some quiet ones this time
Awesome choices....
