Default Are Comp Lifters Better Than LS7 Lifters?

I'm referring to Comp 4-850-16 lifters vs. GM LS7s. I have LS7s now and have some valvetrain noise. I know, pushrod length is critical. But I've tried 3 different pushrod lengths, bought a length checker and matched the individual lengths to each rocker - and still have a little noise.

So anyway is it worth the extra $70 for the Comp lifters or are they just re-packaged LS7's with the Comp name? I don't mind spending the extra if there is something to be gained.

At that price point I would expect any aftermarket lifter to be repackaged OEM, maybe an older design that LS7s though which could be a good thing since the LS7s seem to be higher failure rate than earlier stuff.
I would call the vendor and ask them what they think, they handle the parts regularly and might even be willing to open a couple packages and look at them side by side while on the phone with you.
Also says Made in USA, guessing there aren't a lot of bulk lifter manufacturers in the US now.

Morel lifters are 100% USA made.

Just use the LS7's.

What is your lifter preload looking like? What is your current push rod length? What lobes does your cam have?

Certainly a little too much for your needs, but for the price you might consider:

I went through three sets of LS7 lifters before switching to the comp cam 850-16 and so far couldn't be more satisfied with how quiet they operate compared to the LS7 lifters. They definitely have different parts than LS7 lifters, pushrod seat is shaped different.

Pre-load? Been there - done that. I've tried pre-load from just under .050" to over .100" without much change (Pat G. told me to shoot for .080" for quietest operation). Currently I have some 7.400" and some 7.375" installed due to slight variations in valve tip heights. I've tried 7.350", 7.375", and 7.400" pushrods. Heads are milled .020". Lobes are EPS which are supposed to be some of the quietest around.

The only thing I can think of is lifters at this point. I'm going with TSP LS6 heads this winter and the LS7s are coming out. I'm also going with another cam, this time with LXL lobes on the exhaust.

Thanks 99. That's what I was hoping to hear. Not the part about you going thru 3 sets of LS7s but that the Comps are quieter LOL.

Yes J Glen,
Coming from you, it can't be more true.

I will let go those Morel Hydraulic Racing 4708 for someone in need of high end lifters, real reliability and longevity, not mentioning how safely high RPM you can rev them, as I am not in need to sell them...

They are bathing in the appropriate lubricant since some months now, and are happy in my garage!!!

Christian.

Ya, I thought maybe you'd drop by LOL. I knew we were in the same boat (before your cam swap) when you talked about hearing the ticking noise bounce off curbs or buildings nearby. I thought - now where have I heard that before??? I put up with the noise this summer but I'm tired of it. It's getting fixed this winter.

For LS1 lifters it seems there's not much in between, as far as price point, except the Comps. LS7's are a little over $100 and the next step up from a number of suppliers is 3x or 4x more. I'm just looking for a little upgrade that will work better (quieter) on an aftermarket cam.

Are any of these a little sensative to oil viscosity? I think some of the modular stuff is... Have you tried anything a little heavier?
