Default Thoughts on EPS cams?

the title says it all. Im thinking about going with an EPS 236/248 cam in my build instead of the Tsunami 235/240 I havent heard much about the cam and i figured if i could find out any real world information it would be here. here are the specs of the build:
2001 Camaro 6 speed that is a DD
Cam
PRC225cc heads
SLP air lid
FAST 92/92
FAST 36lb injectors
TSP 1 7/8" headers
TSP Rumbler x true duals 3"

If anyone could provide input on what they think of the cam that would be great.

I have that cam, it is just great and makes power EVERYWHERE. Mine is a 111+3, listed in my sig
IMHO that is a good setup you have there, it really needs a single plane or proflo/hiram to make the most out of it. I dd mine with an auto might be a little big with a stick. That setup with good compression would be all over 500whp pretty easy. You would benefit from a 1 7/8-2" stepped header if you dont have them already and its in the budget
For instance I am around 440whp with 1 3/4 headers, 2.5"y, and single 3", with a stock LS1 intake on it and ported 243s. My setup has a good 40-50whp in it yet with a better intake and headers.

First off thank you for responding. Is a single plane intake more than the FAST? Im going with 3" and 3" true duals. My biggest concern at this point is if the cam/entire build is too much for the street? what mpg do you get with your build?

OP add some 4.10's or higher in your rear end otherwise that big of a cam on the street will run like a slug.

There is a reason why many "big dick" cam cars get beat on the street. I am not bashing you at all but it happens time and time again.

To many people take the biggest stick they can shove in there and let it eat. For the street a big cam like that needs an optimal thought out setup to perform like it is supposed to. Then when a smaller cam thought out combo eats there lunch they want to know why.

I'm not saying you shouldn't go with that cam, I just think for your needs (that I am assuming what they are because I haven't seen them) that a smaller cam will perform just as well and be much more driveable.

I run E85 and get anywhere from 11-14.5mpg, depending on how im feeling. On gas I could probably get 18 or so, when I was bolt ons only it got 16-18 (e85) so I lost 5mpg doing the change, though Im beating the **** out of it consantly

Either way both of those cams are pretty damn big, you should be a bit more specific on what your willing to put up with, and what your looking for

Usually you can get away with a bigger cam if you have a manual due to the fact you have more control over your rpms...and the single plane the other guy was talking about us a carb intake which can't be used with efi

there are single plane EFI intakes guy, ever hear of a victor jr?
and you can run a bigger cam with an auto because it will not lug the motor to as low of RPM due to the stall converter

So what cam are you suggesting? im looking to get 450whp. I really dont care if it has a lumpy idle, i just want to still have decent mpg since it will be a DD.

Well im the kind of guy that likes to cruise, but id like to know that when i need step on it, itll haul some ***. Im hoping the 6 speed will save some fuel while im just cruising. Im selling my 496 BBC 1970 Chevelle because it gets 7mpg and i cant afford that as a daily driver. So as long as this is substantially better i think ill be okay

At any rate, before you go buying a HUGE cam, I wouldnt have this cam with less than 12:1 compression myself. You should look at this thread its exactly what you want and Martin knows his ****, been talking with him on some valve events and the cam he lists in there would be perfect for you, I suggest you call him up

ill look into it. The cam that he had in that is not much smaller than the 236/248 and the lift is almost identical. Like i said i want the most power i can get out of the motor (while staying N/A) and get decent mpg (16-22 ish would be acceptable) are the 243 heads better than the PRC 225's?

You never answered if you were going to be doing gears.

I run a 240/244 cam on the street, drives good with 11.5:1 compression. 4.10 gears made a night and day difference. It drove like **** with the 3.42.

Here is the kicker though. I wouldn't have picked a cam this large if I would have changed the cam, something like the EPS 214/232 would be better for you I think since your not trying to milk ever last drop out of your set-up. You having the heads milled any? What is your desired compression ratio?

My cam was already installed in the long block I was getting, if I would have been picking a cam it would not have been this big, I don't mind it thought since it is a nice weather car.

Edit: looks like you posted that stuff while I was typing

OP look at my sig and my setup is no where near radical. Also this thread may be of some help to you. Pay attention to my post in that thread.

If you had the 243's CNC'd by TEA or AI they would be better than 225 I would think, but the As-cast PRC's would still have a few advantages with the thicker deck and better valve angle for larger cams.

It just depends on which one you would want and how much you want to spend.
