Rear oil barbell plug

Rear oil barbell plug
Welp got my entire motor put in the car and realized I forgot to check this. So I called the machine shop and they said there was just a big hole back there so they never replaced it because there wasn't anything to replace. I have two questions.
1) What is the proper way to install this thing? Just tap it in? How far? Which side goes into the block?
2) Is there a way to check if it is installed without pulling everything apart? I just find it odd that it wouldn't be installed because this block came out of a running ls1. Someone mentioned removing one of the side plugs and peaking in with a flash light?

You can drop the pull the rear cover with the motor in the car but you have to drop the tranny out...Can't picture the orientation of the plug though...been awhile since I seen one but I believe it goes in with the ridges and O-ring to the outside of the block toward the tranny. And it just pops in. A little resistance, but just pops right in.

Thank you. Gotta love the internet. I had some downtime so I figured I would google common issues with ls1 motor rebuilds. Sure enough, a very common problem is people leaving these plugs out and not having oil pressure. This random googling saved my new motor.
