I would go by what your engine builder suggests as far as viscosity is concerned, but the VR1 conventional oil would still be my first choice. You'll probably need at least a 10w-40/15w-40 or quite possibly a 20w-50 if the piston to wall clearances along with the rod and main bearing clearacnes are loose enough.

I think I'm going to switch from Mobil 1 5w-30 to VR-1 10w-30. Mobil 1 has always been good to me though. I'm just concerned with the ZDDP amounts being to low in the Mobil 1. Haven't done much research but either way I'm switching to a little heavier weight. 10w-30 should be perfect.

I ran VR1 in my 410" stroker. I shifted at 7400 and changed the oil every 3k miles or after a hard weekend of racing. I used 20-50 though as that's what my motor was build for.

Ive been running Mobile 1 in my engines for over a decade without any issues. I did a quick search and here is what I found. From the Mobile 1 website.....

All of our high-Zinc products are advanced full synthetic oils. As for the Zinc/Phosphorus content in Mobil 1, we formulate this oil to meet the maximum Phosphorus content allowable to meet API SN engine oil specifications (0.08 wt%).

Right on, I see your from Ky as well. What part? I was born and raised 45min East of the Corvette Museum. I plan on heading back just in time for boating season. Thanks for pulling that info, either way I'm going to 10w-30. This 5w-30 seems a bit thin. Oil pressure is great, but summer is right around the corner. (San Diego, Ca Summer comes early)

congrats on getting it all running smoothly, and awesome dyno graph / number, considering the stingy dyno i'd say you did pretty damn good.

lol, the graph alone looks almost identical to mine, tho you have me beat on the numbers, obviously.

looks and sounds amazing, i cant wait for new heads and a different cam in my trans am. definitely inspiring

I understand you've had no issues, but what is it going to hurt by running an oil that has higher ZDDP content? Not only that it's cheaper!

That level that they have to meet is specified by a bunch of liberal, tree hugging eco maniacs that think the world is going to end because of our cars. Believe me, our valve-trains best interest is not of their concern.

I personally think that second one was weak. The first little stomp was good. (3rd gear maybe) the second one was a 4th gear roll on. We were in a little bit of traffic and what we were doing probably not the smartest thing in the world.

I personally loved the fact that the Evo behind me didn't want any. (Not that I support street racing by any means lol )
