Default Melling ls1 oil pump (Don't worry, Not O-Ring related)

There is no special alignment needed correct? And when I say alignment I am refering to the alignment of the oil pump gear on the crank gear. Is there only one way it can go on as far as lining up with the splines on the crank? I could not tell because the engine is in the car and I'm simply doing a heads cam swap so there is limited space working down there.

The reason I am asking all of this is simply because the melling oil pump had a line engraved into one of the splines on the pump. Making me think that there was a certain way it was suppose to go on the crank gear.

Oh and by the way... I used the black o-ring.

Yes, there an alignment procedure, but most just throw them on and go.

The directions made no mention of special alignment, so I just put it on and it works fine.

from what I understand is that ya remove the front cover and use 2 sets of feeler gauges I think .004, 180 degrees apart to center/locate the housing to the crank gear. But then again I could be all wrong......

^^^that is right, but as stated you can just throw it on....usually doesn't hurt to throw some oil in the pump and turn the gear to sort of prime it before you put it on...

Just finished the install. Oil pressure is good. I have two dead cylinders on 6 and 8 after the hci swap. Any ideas before I go and try to diagnose it tomorrow?

Already checked the plug wires.

Check the resistance of the coils on the bad cylinders and compare to good cylinder coil...or just swap coils and see if dead cylinder moves with the coil...
