I know for sure that the Gen IV LS1's had revised connecting rods for a floating pin, a'la the '04 GTO. Not sure about them showing up elsewhere though.

Well,it a little complicated, to say when the entire LS based engines across the entire line up. But the first to receive them were the LQ9 in the Escalade going all the way back to 02-03. Which precedes rest of the line up by a least 2 years .

Really? I thought all Gen IV rods were floating? Is that a 5.3/4.8 only thing?

It is diffcult to say exactly when they started across the entire line. But they started puting floating pin in most by late 2004MY. But if you are looking to buy a engine and want floating pin start with a 2005MY to be on the safe side. With out knowing the production date of vehicle , 2004 will be a hit or miss. The excemption is the LQ9 which I stated earlier. All Gen IV will be floating pin. LS2 and LQ9 basicly the same piston and rod.

I'm not sure about the pins but my 02 Lq9 has the skirt coating on the piston....I thought they introduced this the same year as the F pins..

Same. Car stuff 2004+ (model) all have seen it. Truck stuff on 2003s, not sure on 2002 but haven't worked on alot of them. I think it might be when they started using the 243/799 heads on everything non sqareport. With the older head casting motors I think yo me have always had the pressed pins/non sym. rods internals.

2005 model year received floating across the board, car and truck. So yes LS1 /LS6 got floating 2005. Not aware of any 2004 LS1/LS6 getting them, if any did most likely late production. Pre 2004 will only be found in LQ9.

There you go LQ9 from the beginning! They preceded the rest of the LS family by a least 2 years as I said before.
