Default 408 with 11.7 compression, 93 pump gas friendly or more ocatane needed?

I have a 408 with 11.7 compression in my 2000SS and trying to decide is 93-94 cotane will be enough or will I need more octane. I live in the midwest where E85 is plentiful so I am not opposed to switching over to E85 but just looking for some opnions. Thanks

^ this figure out your dynamic its your "actual compression" inside engine plays a big part it seems that 9.3:1 dynamic seems to be the most common ran. For example had a car in st.louis had 13.3:1 static compression with 9.1:1 dynamic with a 408 car made 549 rwhp on a dyno jet ran on pump 93. No issues with 27* of timing

11.7 should be more than doable on 93 octane gas tuned correctly...but yes find out the DCR also.

I would go with E85 regardless, it's cheaper and make more power although mileage will suffer...but if you're building a 408ci I don't think mileage is too high on your list of priorities.

Thanks for the replies. I do not have the cam card for the current cam so I am not exactly sure what the dynmanic compression is now, but I will be swapping the cam out this winter so I can custom taylor it some. I am planning to go with a custom Tooley cam so I will see what he suggests. It sounds like the 11.7 static is doable on 93 especially with a custom cam so that is good news. I am not opposed to going E85 and may do that in the end anyway but I will need a fuel system upgrade to go E85 and I was hoping that could wait because I am pretty thin on time right now and having to do a good bit of traveling with work.

I have a 427 w/ 12:1 compression with a fairly large cam on 93 octane with no issues.

Quick Reply: 408 with 11.7 compression, 93 pump gas friendly or more ocatane needed?
