New cams from Tick Performance

Or new cams dubbed the Saturday Night Special Torque Max series have been released! Stay tuned for the LS3 and the LS7 cams to be released very soon after the new year!

These will work with any cathedral port headed engine, from 325-370 cubic inches.

The stage 2 looks like it might work well for when I swap in my 799 heads...I definitely like the operating range.

Not sure of the PTV if I mill my 799 heads to get 11.1:1 compression.

I have the milder 222/226 cam and it should work great for my application.... big truck needs torque

As long as you keep the stock valves. That cam with the intake duration it has and intake center line it has doesn't need any more than 10.9-11.0:1 compression to achieve a good dynamic compression.

Also the "aggressive" lobes are lsl lobes which aren't bad at all compared to others out there. 20k miles you can expect with them and an extra 5k from the milder lobes. That said you should always check the pressures every 10k or per year on at least a few springs.

For me it's a combination of a few things. For one, with a smaller stroke and someone who wants torque I like to use overlap to broaden the torque curve and virtually extend the point where torque peaks and then falls off. Then from there it's about keeping dynamic compression up, not getting carried away with intake duration and not opening the exhaust valve too soon.

Looking at the torquemax stage 1 ls2 and have a few questions:

You only have a choice between the two options offered. Either will offer a pretty long spring life, with the milder giving a longer life.

No changes to lsa or any other spec are available. They are designed to work with the given events they have as advertised.. Lsa is not the end all be all when it comes to what drives better. Overlap determines this and when/where the overlap period starts and stops. That cam has just as much overlap as my 230/238 113+3 street heat cam and drives like a dream. It has a noticeable idle but nothing crazy. I think you would be pleased with how well it drives and the power it makes.

Do you think the LS2 Stg2 cam would require too much compression for people running LQ4s/LY6s and milled 243s? I have some 243s I want to send to TEA for their stg2 port package. I need to research how much compression I can safely gain.

Just tossing some ideas around.

So if I'm understanding this correctly, it's more the overlap which determines how the car will drive...the 223/231 cam will drive just like a 230/238 cam like you said. A small cam that drives like a big cam...sacrificing power over the bigger cam while driving the same. So what's the point of getting that small cam when a bigger one has the same driving characteristics? I thought the whole point of a smaller cam that sacrifices power was for better drivability...but that doesn't seem to be the case.

Unless I'm understanding this all wrong?
