Default Custom Cam 235/237 598/601 lift. What combo?

What would be a good combo to run with this cam or what would this be spec'd for.

Details are

235/237 598/601 on a 112lsa +2 XER lobes. I have the cam card if that will help. I got a deal on it and was just wondering what kind of combo would be good for it. I have ported 241's (should have flow numbers tomorrow) LT headers/LS6 intake/150 wet kit.

I asked the owner what it was spec'd for after I bought it but never got a response.

Thanks.

I'd advance that cam at least 4 degrees for a stock stroke ls1. 50ivc is very late and will take forever to peak.

Would I use an adjustable timing chain/gear to do that and which would you recommend? What do you think the shift point would be if I installed it dot to dot? Thanks for the info!

We've got a couple different ones we use, if you look on or website I believe it's crane or cloyes that makes one for 179.99.

The intake manifold design on the ls1 engine dictates the highest point a given cam profile will peak as the runners are of a certain length that it "tunes" the rpm band in which the engine makes peak torque and horsepower. That cam with a single plane dot to dot would peak at 7000rpm-7200rpm, but only around 6400-6600 with a fast or stock style intake. Main problem is it will be very peaky because the intake valve close and exhaust valve open are too late IMO.

If I advanced it another 4* would that help a lot with the ls6 intake and bring the peak torque and hp down a little? I will be ordering one from you if you think that this would be the best bet for me. Thanks again Martin!!

Yes it would broaden the curve and gain under the curve power from advancing it. Ironically it may make a higher peak number dot to dot, but that's all it would have going for it.

Ok thanks.

I got the heads back from the shop, here are the flow numbers.

I'm not a huge fan of the XER lobes, but it will work just fine.

Thanks again for all the info Martin. Ive ordered a couple things from you before and always got great service. The heads have only been cleaned with a mill of .007 just to clean them up. I will measure anyways but do you think i will have PTV issues with this cam because i found out the heads have 2.02 and 1.6 valves?

BTW: Thanks on all of the fast shipping. I had to order a new bellhousing from you guys not that long ago because mine was cracked. You guys saved my *** because the shop wanted to charge me for having the car in the shop taking up space while we were waiting on a part. It came the next day from when I ordered it!
